Jermall Charlo Gives Career Best Performance Vs. Derevyanchenko: Twitter Reaction, Analysis And Video

Jermall Charlo became the first middleweight to decisively beat Derevyanchenko, and in the process, he scored the best win of his middleweight career, scoring the unanimous decision victory.

In Derevyanchenko’s previous two big fights, vs. Daniel Jacobs and Gennadiy Golovkin, an argument could be made that Derevyanchenko could have been awarded either or both. But on Saturday, Charlo was fantastic. And I wasn’t alone in thinking so. He called himself a “PPV star” now, and though we’ll have to wait for the buy rate, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities.

After the bout, Charlo said, “I made my team proud. I did what I was supposed to do. I executed the game plan. I passed the test. “

He praised Derevyanchenko’s toughest test, and though he said he kept waiting for his opponent to “turn it up,” Charlo said he never really felt Derevyanchenko switch into another gear.

Though Charlo said he wanted the knockout, but his performance “was statement enough.”

Though Derevyanchenko gave a solid performance, Charlo seemed to be in control for most of the bout. Early in the bout, his jab was impressive, and he buckled Derevyanchenko’s knees a couple of times throughout the bout. Derevyanchenko also had to deal with a cut right eye and a left eye that closed throughout the second half of the fight.

Derevyanchenko fought well for much of the bout, but Charlo was simply better.

But Derevyanchenko also got plenty of credit from boxing Twitter.

Sadly, though, there was something missing.
