Doc Rivers Out As Clippers Coach: Report

Doc Rivers is out as the Clippers coach with two years left on his contract, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported via sources.

Rivers issued this statement on social media:

Rivers, 58, is 943-681 (.581) in his career with Orlando, Boston and the Clippers.

He led the Clippers to the conference semifinals three times, but never got them to the West Finals. This year’s team featured Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and was expected to challenge the Lakers in the West Finals, but blew a 3-1 to the Nuggets in the West semis.

Clippers assistant Ty Lue and ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy are the favorites to replace Rivers. Lue has been linked to several jobs, including the Rockets, 76ers and Pelicans.

“Tyronn Lue is the hottest name in the 2020 coach openings,” said Dave Mason, Sportsbook Brand Manager for BetOnline.ag. “He already has a ring as a head coach and the players love him. We will be shocked if he doesn’t land a head coaching gig and most likely will have his choice from a few squads.”
