Infosys freshers onboarding issue: Centre directs Karnataka to investigate delay – Times of India

Infosys onboarding delay: After a complaint by the IT union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) to the Ministry of Labour and Employment regarding the delayed onboarding of over 2,000 candidates by Infosys, the Labour Ministry has directed the Karnataka State Labour Commissioner’s Office to take appropriate action under the relevant labour laws.
According to an ET report, in a letter dated September 3rd, the Ministry has urged the Karnataka Labour Department to investigate the matter and take suitable action, as the state government is the appropriate authority for enforcing respective labour laws in this case.
Last month, NITES filed a formal complaint against Infosys to the Ministry of Labour, alleging delayed onboarding and “ongoing exploitation and unprofessional treatment” of more than 2,000 young engineering graduates who were selected for system engineer (SE) and digital specialist engineer (DSE) roles during the 2022-23 recruitment drive.
This week, Infosys has begun sending joining dates to the affected engineering graduates who have been waiting for onboarding for the past two years.

On Monday, the Bengaluru-based IT major sent more than 1,000 appointment letters to freshers it had promised to hire in 2022, and a substantial number of letters were also mailed on Tuesday.
Sources close to the development told the financial daily that Infosys is experiencing a better demand environment and plans to send appointment letters to all waiting candidates by December.
The company has revised its revenue guidance upward to 3-4% for the full year, compared to its earlier guidance of 1-3%, indicating a need for more headcount than previously anticipated.
Harpreet Singh Saluja, president at NITES, said on Tuesday that most of the 2,000 young engineering graduates selected for SE roles have received their joining dates, while approximately 500 graduates chosen for DSE roles are still awaiting their joining dates. “We will keep a vigilant eye for the rest of them,” he said.
