‘Project Power’ Just Became The Second Netflix Movie Ever To Pull Off This Incredible Milestone

Back on March 15, 2020, Spenser Confidential became the first movie to ever truly dominate Netflix
NFLX
’s Top 10 feature. On that day, the Mark Wahlberg film became the first to ever spend 10 consecutive days atop the daily list for movies. At the time it seemed improbably—like no other movie could possibly match such a streak.

And now a second movie has joined that exclusive club.

Project Power, starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, just saw its tenth straight day in the #1 position. While 365 Days spent 12 total days in the top spot, that film couldn’t pull off a double-digit streak like Project Power just accomplished. Which means that the Jamie Foxx film and Spenser Confidential now sit alone at the top of that list.

While this may not seem like a big deal, it’s actually pretty rare for a movie to dominate the Top 10 like this. While shows like Tiger King, The Umbrella Academy, 13 Reasons Why and Unsolved Mysteries have spent more than 10 days in the #1 spot, it’s historically been much harder for a movie to generate the kind of numbers necessary to consistently command the Top 10.

In fact, since the Top 10 feature premiered back in late February, only eleven movies have accomplished a streak of six or more days in the #1 position. So, in the 180 days the Top 10 list has been available…that’s not very many movies that have dominated the Top 10 like Project Power has.

Here’s every one of those movies and their streaks:

  1. Spenser Confidential – 18 days
  2. Project Power – 10 days
  3. The Wrong Missy – 9 days
  4. The Kissing Booth 2 – 9 days
  5. The Angry Birds 2 Movie – 8 days
  6. Uncut Gems – 8 days
  7. Fatal Affair – 7 days
  8. 365 Days – 7 days
  9. The Old Guard – 6 days
  10. Extraction – 6 days
  11. Despicable Me – 6 days

This should highlight just how successful the Joseph Gordon-Levitt movie has been so far on Netflix. Because four of the movies on that list—Despicable Me, The Angry Birds Movie 2, 365 Days and Spenser Confidential—rank as the four most popular movies on Netflix this year. And two other movies—like The Wrong Missy and The Old Guard—absolutely dominated the monthly rankings during their Netflix runs.

In just 10 days, Project Power has earned the maximum number of points possible in that span of time (you can read more about our Netflix point-tallying system here). And it’s been enough to propel the film all the way to the #4 position for the month—with its sights set on the #1 spot very soon.

Here are the current monthly movie rankings for August on Netflix:

  1. The Lost Husband – 115 points
  2. Dennis the Menace – 101 points
  3. Jurassic Park – 102 points
  4. Project Power – 100 points
  5. Mr. Peabody & Sherman – 97 points
  6. Work It – 93 points
  7. The Kissing Booth 2 – 59 points
  8. Mr. Deeds – 51 points
  9. Latte and the Magic Waterstone – 49 points
  10. Drunk Parents – 47 points

Within the next few days, the Jamie Foxx vehicle should take over the top spot for the month. On the yearly list, the movie has already reached the #26 position, and should move into the top 20 by tomorrow.

Now all that remains to be seen is whether Foxx and Gordon-Levitt can match (or best) Spenser Confidential’s insane 18-day streak in first place. If that happens, then Project Power might just become the most popular Netflix movie of the year.
