‘All My Children’ Star John Callahan Dies at 66

Actor John Callahan, who is remembered for his 1992 to 2005 role as Edmund Grey on ABC daytime drama All My Children, died from a massive stroke at his home in Palm Desert, California on Sunday. He was 66.

“May Flights of Angels Wing You to Your Rest my Dear Friend. Your bigger than life, gregarious personality will leave a hole in our hearts forever,” wrote his ex-wife Eva LaRue on Instagram. “I am at a complete loss for words right now for you. I hope Heaven has baseball and that your team always wins! The Yankees has just lost their biggest fan.”

Born on Dec. 23, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York, Callahan landed his first television guest role in an episode of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (which was based on the theatrical of the same name). Other early guest appearances included legal drama The Mississippi, Three’s Company, the original Fantasy Island and Hotel. His first regularly scheduled series role was his three season stint as Eric Stavros from 1986 to 1988 on CBS primetime serialized drama Falcon Crest.

Following a three-season run on NBC daytime drama Santa Barbara from 1989 to 1992, Callahan began his long-running part on All My Children. He also had the recurring role as Dr. Baker on NBC’s Days of Our Lives.

In 1998, Callahan was named Outstanding Lead Actor by the now defunct Soap Opera Digest Awards.

“We’re devastated to share that John Callahan passed away earlier today,” tweeted the Daytime Emmys. “ Sending our deepest condolences to Eva La Rue and all his loved ones,” the tweet reads.”

According to Callahan’s IMDb page, he just recently completed a role in the Michael Satchell film Loyalty.
