Bad Bunny Beats BTS, Dua Lipa On YouTube Global Chart

Bad Bunny is the star that the world is listening to most in lockdown, according to YouTube. The Puerto Rican star is dominating the internet giant’s charts, beating everyone from Dua Lipa, with her latest album Future Nostalgia, to BTS with its “Boy With Luv” quarantine video.

Bad Bunny has risen to No. 1 on the Global Top Artists chart and No. 2 on the U.S. Top Artists chart. This performance is follows the release of the official music video for “Yo Perreo Sola,” which is No. 2 on the Global Top Songs chart, and holds the top place in more than 15 markets this week, including Mexico, Spain, Argentina, and Colombia.

This showing bettered Dua Lipa, who is at No.10 on the Global Top Artists chart. Still, the British singer’s single “Break My Heart” has debuted on 50 charts, including Australia, the U.K and the U.S.

BTS, with 6.7 million hits for its James Corden clip, is just one of the acts contributing to YouTube live streams and Jam #WithMe content. The Brazilian duo Jorge & Mateus’s #WithMe livestream “Live Na Garagem” has racked up more than 38 million views. Artists are connecting with fans through livestreams, encouraging them to stay home while entertaining them along the way. The opera singer Andrea Bocelli will perform live on Easter Sunday, April 12, from the empty Duomo Cathedral in Milan.

The coronavirus-related death of John Prine is pushing up his ratings today. It follows recent surges for “Stacy’s Mom,” in memory of Adam Schlesinger; “Pickup Man,” for the late Joe Diffie; and “I Love Rock’N’Roll,” as news broke of the passing of its composer Alan Merrill. The music of Bill Withers and Kenny Rogers, who died of natural causes, also surged after their recent deaths from heart complications and natural causes respectively.
