August 2024 bank holidays: In India, August is a month full of important festivals and local festivities, which result in a lot of bank holidays. Depending on the location, banks will have different days off for events like Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami, as well as the national holiday of Independence Day.

In August 2024, banks across various states in India will remain closed for a total of 13 days, which includes Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. The country observes three national holidays during which all businesses are required to provide their employees with a day off. These holidays are:
January 26 is Republic Day; August 15 is Independence Day; and October 2 is Gandhi Jayanti.
This year, August 15, which marks the 78th Independence Day, falls on a Thursday. As a result, banks nationwide will be closed on this day to commemorate the occasion. However, due to the holiday falling on a Thursday, there will not be an extended weekend during that particular week in August.

  • August 13 (Tuesday): Patriot’s Day – Banks will be closed in Manipur.
  • August 15 (Thursday): Independence Day/Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi) – All banks in India will be closed.
  • August 19 (Monday): Raksha Bandhan/Jhulana Purnima/Birthday of Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur – Banks will be closed in Tripura, Gujarat, Orissa, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.
  • August 20 (Tuesday): Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi – Banks will be closed in select states (details not specified).
