Big E, Edge Top List Of Early Favorites For 2021 WWE Royal Rumble

As 2020 mercifully comes to an end, early odds for the 2021 Royal Rumble have surfaced and some intriguing choices have emerged as December favorites.

Big E and Edge top the list of favorites from BOVADA, which currently has both at +500. Big E is in the midst of a singles push after The New Day was split up during the WWE Draft, while Edge is on the mend recovering from a triceps injury suffered back in June. Edge, who memorably returned during this year’s Royal Rumble before coming up short during the Final Four, should be cleared to return right around Royal Rumble season as he prepares for a potential third match against Randy Orton since WrestleMania 36.

Hard-luck NXT Superstar Rhea Ripley is currently listed as the favorite to win the 2021 Royal Rumble after her year was derailed by a controversial WrestleMania loss to Charlotte Flair. Though the match was praised as arguably the best of the entire weekend, Ripley’s loss to Flair sparked a tailspin that has continued to this day. After ending 2019 as NXT women’s champion, Ripley has failed to regain the title since losing it back in April.

Some of the more interesting names listed to win the 2021 Women’s Royal Rumble include Ronda Rousey, who is not too far behind Ripley with +750 odds. The Rock—a hot choice to challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37—is being listed at +1400, equal or better odds than top stars Daniel Bryan (+1400), Seth Rollins (+2000) and Braun Strowman (+2500).

Goldberg, who recently called out Roman Reigns, is listed at +2800.

This time last year, Roman Reigns was the early favorite to win the men’s Royal Rumble with eventual winner Drew McIntyre in second place with 4/7 odds. Shayna Baszler emerged as an early favorite to win the 2020 women’s Royal Rumble, with eventual winner Charlotte Flair listed at third with 13/2 odds. Flair and Baszler went on to become the final two as Charlotte pulled off a surprising victory.

WWE seems lightyears away from Big E facing Roman Reigns anytime soon, as his once-deliberate push on Friday Night SmackDown has stalled to a degree. With Roman Reigns vs. The Rock the rumored direction toward WWE’s biggest show, now just doesn’t seem like the time to pull the trigger on a Big E world title chase, especially if he’d be seen as a disappointing challenger in contrast to The Rock—an unenviable role that will be a reality for just about any challenger not named The Rock.
