Billie Eilish, John Legend, The Chicks Among Performer Set For Democratic National Convention

Music artists and entertainers are coming out in full force for the Democratic National Convention.

Billie Eilish, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson and The Chicks are set to take the stage at the convention. Common, Maggie Rogers, Leon Bridges, Billy Porter, Stephen Stills and Prince Royce are also on the roster for the event, which will take place virtually over four nights, August 17-20, and is expected to formalize the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris ticket.

“These artists are committed to engaging with, registering and mobilizing voters to get us over the finish line in November,” Stephanie Cutter, 2020 Democratic National Convention program executive, said in a statement.

According to convention planners, musicians are slated to perform a mix of new songs, classics and renditions of the national anthem. Additionally, youth choir members representing all 50 states and seven U.S. territories will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Monday night in an activation in conjunction with DNCC partner Commonwealth Youth Choirs.

The entertainment sector will be in good company among Democratic party advocates. Michelle Obama is slated to speak Monday night, Bill Clinton will address the audience Tuesday night, and Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are on Wednesday night’s schedule.

Harris is expected to accept the party’s Vice Presidential nomination on Monday night, and Biden will formally accept the Presidential nod on the closing night of the convention. Both Biden and Harris will deliver their speeches from Delaware.

“In just three days, we will kick off a Democratic Convention that will look and feel very different than past conventions. It will truly be a convention across America, and these incredible artists will help us tell the story of where we are as a country today under Donald Trump’s failed leadership, and the promise of what we can and should be with Joe Biden as president,” Cutter said. “These artists are committed to engaging with, registering and mobilizing voters to get us over the finish line in November.”

For some of the music talent, this year represents a DNC repeat. Legend and Hudson performed during the 2008 convention that nominated Barack Obama.

Eilish and Rogers are among musicians who’ve teamed with the non-profit organization HeadCount to help educate fans about voter registration.
