Boston Calling 2020 Is Officially Canceled

As of today, officials have announced that due to the ongoing pandemic Boston Calling is no longer taking place this year. The festival has been canceled entirely for 2020, however new dates for 2021 were announced today, along with refund options rolling out soon. Boston Calling’s official statement reads:

“We are heartbroken; however, the health and safety of our audience, artists, partners, vendors, first responders, and staff are of the utmost importance to us, and we felt that this was the only acceptable way forward.

To our audience, whom we value dearly, we are so sad that we will not be together with you in May. We know information regarding your tickets is extremely important to you. As such, we will be reaching out to all ticket holders in the coming weeks with a detailed outline of options available. This includes obtaining a full refund or rolling tickets to next year’s event – about which we hope to have exciting news to share soon. We thank you for your patience; please stay tuned and we will be in touch with more information in the near future.

To our valued partners, vendors, restaurants, staff and artists, we wish you all the very best during these trying times, and we look forward to collaborating with you all again soon.”

This cancellation is no surprise, as Boston Calling is now among numerous festivals and large events to cancel due to coronavirus concerns. Like every festival, it’s very unfortunate, especially considering the line-up Boston Calling was boasting for 2020. Foo Fighters, Rage Against The Machine, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers were the three headliners slated for the festival this May, which ultimately touted the best 90’s era rock line-up of the year. Speaking of which, Rage Against The Machine’s first reunion tour leg has been delayed until the end of May, which could and will likely be further delayed given the current world circumstance.

Firefly Festival (DE), Boston Calling (MA), Epicenter Festival (SC), Sonic Temple Music & Arts Festival (OH), plus many more are among the slew of 2020 festival cancellations. Boston Calling marks one of the most recent cancellations, in addition to Nashville’s CMA festival which also announced today it will be canceled. However, all of these festivals are making the best possible decision with regards to canceling. And so far every festival is providing the necessary full refunds for ticket holders, in addition to other options like placeholder tickets for 2021. At this point it’s safe to say that the spring concert/festival season will cease to exist, with the early summer season already starting to follow suit.
