BTS Now Claim The Third-Most No. 1s Of All Time On The World Albums Chart

After initially missing out on scoring one more No. 1 title on the World Albums chart earlier this summer with their latest Japanese album Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey (which debuted at No. 2), BTS finally see their new release rise all the way to the top spot on the Billboard ranking they have come to know so well. The set is their milestone tenth to rule the roost, and by earning one more leader, the group advances on the list of the acts which have conquered the tally most often.

According to Billboard, BTS now claims the third-most No. 1s of all time on the World Albums ranking, with only two acts having scored more chart-toppers.

Leading the way among all artists is Celtic Thunder, who have so far managed 15 No. 1s on the chart. Not far behind that act comes another related group, Celtic Woman. They have scored a lucky 13 rulers on the list.

BTS landed their first No. 1 on the World Albums tally back in 2015, and since then, they’ve rarely failed to add to their total whenever they have something new to deliver. The K-pop favorites pushed The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2 to the peak position five years ago, and that was the start of a winning streak that only the two names mentioned above have experienced as well.

They repeated that success in 2016 with Wings, and the following year, they doubled their career total with two more No. 1s, Love Yourself: Her and You Never Walk Alone. BTS landed a trio of chart-toppers in 2018 (the most of any year so far) with Love Yourself: Tear, Love Yourself: Answer and Face Yourself, their most recent Japanese-language effort (before Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey). Last year, they sent Map of the Soul: Persona to the peak position, and so far in 2020 they’ve pushed both Map of the Soul: 7 and Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey to No. 1 as well.

In addition to their 10 properly credited No. 1 titles on the World Albums chart, BTS has also sent one other collection to the highest rung on that specific list, though it wasn’t technically credited to just them, so it isn’t included in their total. The band’s 2019 soundtrack BTS World, which accompanied their mobile game of the same name, also spent time in the penthouse, but it’s not included in their run of wins (though fans certainly haven’t forgotten the set).

With another full-length expected by the end of 2020, there’s a great chance that BTS will up their count to 11 No. 1 releases on the World Albums chart, and at the rate they’re increasing their career total, the group may soon match Celtic Woman for the second-most rulers of all time.
