BTS, Shawn Mendes, Blackpink And Why Don’t We: 5 Important Moves On This Week’s Hot 100

South Korean musicians are enjoying a historic frame on the Hot 100, as one name rises to the No. 1 spot (again) while another lands a pair of winners at once, a relatively uncommon feat for even the biggest stars from the nation.

While musical acts like BTS and Blackpink may be making headlines with their latest hits, they aren’t the only artists worth talking about this week on the Hot 100.

Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart.

No. 1 – BTS, Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685 – “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)”

Last week, Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685’s  “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” was down at No. 8 on the Hot 100, and this time around, it’s running the show. The viral pop tune vaults to the highest spot on the tally following the release of a remix featuring BTS, the biggest group in the world. The septet wrote new lyrics and performed on the cut, and their massive fan base showed up to buy tens of thousands of copies of the cut.

Now, the track is the second No. 1 on the Hot 100 for both Derulo and BTS (who reached the throne just a few weeks ago) and the first for newcomer 685.

No. 18 – Shawn Mendes – “Wonder”

Shawn Mendes gave his fans the best news possible a little over a week ago when he revealed not just a new single, but also that a new album is on the way. The pop singer dropped “Wonder,” the first taste of his forthcoming full-length of the same name (which is coming in December) and his followers were quick to stream and buy the tune.

Now, “Wonder” opens at No. 18 on the Hot 100, giving the Canadian superstar his tenth top 40 in the U.S.

No. 30 – Megan Thee Stallion – “Don’t Stop (ft. Young Thug”

She may still be riding the high from her recent Hot 100 No. 1 “WAP,” but Megan Thee Stallion isn’t resting on her successes. The rapper launches her new single “Don’t Stop,” a collaboration with fellow hip-hop powerhouse Young Thug, at No. 30 on this week’s tally. The tune is assumed to be the latest sample from her forthcoming project, which is still shrouded in secrecy.

“Don’t Stop” is Stallion’s seventh top 40 on the Hot 100 and Thug’s fifteenth placement inside the important region.

No. 37 – Why Don’t We – “Fallin’”

Boy band Why Don’t We proved their popularity two years ago when their debut album 8 Letters landed inside the top 10 on the Billboard 200, and now they’ve finally reached the Hot 100 for the first time…and they’ve made a big splash upon their arrival.

“Fallin’,” another new release from the quintet, opens at No. 37 on the chart this week, giving the act their first top 40.

No. 59 – Blackpink – “Lovesick Girls”

As their first full-length The Album begins its time on the Billboard 200 at No. 2, Blackpink send one track from the title to the Hot 100, upping their career total once again. The South Korean quartet sees new focus track “Lovesick Girls” debut at No. 59, while previous single “Ice Cream” with Selena Gomez lifts slightly to No. 64.

Just below the Hot 100, “Bet You Wanna,” another album cut (which features Cardi B), opens at No. 1 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100, meaning it missed out on the main chart by just one space.
