NEW DELHI: An IndiGo Surat-Kolkata flight with over 170 people on board diverted to Bhopal on Sunday after the pilots reported a “burning smell in the cockpit”.
The Airbus A320 neo (VT-ITH) operating as 6E-357 landed safely in Bhopal.
“Physical examination was carried out of the aircraft on landing and during that no burning smell was observed. The aircraft is suspected to have a technical fault in the ‘avionics compartment extract fan’ and has been grounded in Bhopal for further inspection,” said a senior official.
An IndiGo spokesperson said “flight 6E357 operating from Surat to Kolkata diverted to Bhopal as a precaution. During flight, the pilot felt a momentary foul odour. As a matter of caution the aircraft was landed at Bhopal. The passengers are being accommodated on another aircraft. The aircraft is currently under inspection at Bhopal.
