6 Observations Of The Most Successful People I Know

Watch what people do and you’ll learn who they are. Think of those you know who are at the top of their game and study them closely. Their words hold clues, their habits hold hints. The patterns they live have led to who they are today. It’s a classic snowball effect. The patterns can be adapted and emulated and incorporated into your journey. It’s not about envy or one-upping, it’s about letting people inspire you and turning it into action.

As Tony Robbins said, “In life, people either need inspiration or desperation.” Find your inspiration from the success around you.

Here are 6 observations of the most successful people I know.

1.   Their output is huge

The most successful people I know are prolific. They keep up a fast pace and they appear superhuman. Whether it’s articles or videos or workshops or podcasts; they know what they stand for, they think of the ideas and they get their work out there. They publish every day. It almost feels unattainable. But it’s not.

They’ve worked out how to package their words and thoughts into content that adds value to millions, and they’re producing it non-stop. It started slowly at first, but then the snowball started to roll. They’ve practised this drill enough times that now it feels effortless. Their audience are so bought in that they can’t get enough.

2.   They put their network first

They see their role as serving their network, so its needs are thought of first. They’re quizzing, engaging intently, and finding out what it wants. They know who their audience members are; their challenges, hopes and dreams. Their work answers those questions; they’re speaking directly to their network with everything they put out there.

It’s not about them, it’s about who they serve. Their success is a by-product of being relevant and essential to a growing number of people. The audience feels listened to and responded to and it’s keen to hear the answers. They tell their friends and the snowball keeps rolling.

3.   They say no

They know what they are capable of, so they know their time is valuable. They guard it fiercely and it’s rarely wasted. They say no, a lot. No to that opportunity, no to that meeting, no to anything that is secondary to their main purpose, which they have clearly defined. They know that if they aren’t intentional with how they spend their time, they will be pulled in all directions and work to the agendas of others.

They have systemised the no. They know how to say it without offending and they know what to propose instead. It’s polite but it’s firm. Being turned down only brings more awe and respect from their audience. The snowball gets bigger.

4.   They think big picture

Their goals are so clear that the journey is obvious, but they don’t expect a smooth path. They can handle bumps in the road because the general trajectory is upwards, so they truly don’t sweat the small stuff. They breeze through news and disruptions with elegant grace and they back themselves to overcome every challenge. They can take a step back instead of being pulled into minor details and they can trust their team to deliver in line with the vision.

Their desktop might be cluttered, their inbox might be overflowing, and their hair might be a mess, but they’re rocketing forward because they know what really matters and that’s all they’re concerned with. The sharp focus unlocks a new level of flow and the snowball gathers pace.

5.   They have high standards

The most successful people I know wouldn’t put their name to anything sub-par. They respect their audience too much to sell out to the highest bidder. They avoid projects that don’t fit and people they’re not sure about. If something isn’t good enough, they’ll stop it right there. They protect their brand and what it stands for and they are careful whose hands touch it.

They don’t use their high standards as excuses for inaction. Instead, they’ve created a framework. A strong and recognisable brand that they’re proud of, and a set of guidelines that govern what gets through. Their commitment to being exceptional extends to their team; they work together like a well-oiled machine and the snowball is unstoppable.

6.   They are kind

The most successful people I know aren’t shouting about it on Instagram. They’re not flashing their cash or their car or pretending they have the answers. Their work is there to inspire people, not drive them with envy. They are driven by their mission instead of their ego, and it creates superfans which snowballs the success further.

They know how to lift themselves and they lift up those around them. Conversations are about ideas and plans, not people and rumours. They stay out of gossip and drama and those who spread it. It’s not their vibe. They are their own harshest critic but others’ biggest champion. They don’t bring people down. They treat their audience well.

Six things that start small and build up to greatness. Six steps that lay the foundations from which momentum can build. Six characteristics of the most successful and inspiring people I know. You have the framework, now it’s time to apply it.
