Seeking Depth In The Age Of Shallow

15 Hypothetical personal ads of the 2020s. Partly inspired by old-school personal ads from long ago, pre-FB, pre-Insta, pre-Big-Social. Mostly inspired by the unusually deep humans I’ve met at twine.

15. The only people I’ve been meeting are beautifully filtered, very depressed, very lonely, and very shallow. If you’re well-read, moderately self-aware, enjoy conversations that matter, let’s get together and talk please.

14. Sometimes funny, always Feminist. Fire personality. Everything I know about leadership can be illustrated with a lesson from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

13. Unabashed learnaholic. Lethally curious. I need to see and know as much as possible before I die. I’ll never stop asking: “tell me more about you.” I consider every conversation and experience to be research for becoming a better human.

12. Half Korean, half Mexican. My comfort food is kimchi quesadillas. My favorite people are those who don’t quite belong, anywhere. They see me.

11. Jordan never told the giraffe he loved her. But the giraffe knew.

10. Shy ambitious human who uses shyness to hide their ambition. Seeking a space to no longer be hidden. To be heard. To be understood.

9. Drummer, Digital Swiss Army knife, sourdough baker, and most importantly, Dad. Figuring out what I want to be when I grow up…or tomorrow.

8. Human, trained by kids. Care a lot about schools, sustainability, and systems. Equal parts confused by people and concerned humanity is on a fast course to destruction…and determined to work on both. Not sure how yet (maybe we can figure this out together) – but have found many ways to fail already.

7. Very private person who nonetheless craves authentic connection. Introvert for me really just means I can’t handle high volume boring interactions. But if every conversation went into the deep end, I think I’d never get tired of talking. Thoughtful, hopeful, striving always for a kinder world.

6. On a social media detox (hopefully, this time, forever). All I want is to talk about real things. I get terribly bored in large groups and networking makes me queasy. Ask me what I think is a life worth living, well, that’s a conversation worth having.

5. Odd Human Out. Understands technology, still trying to understand humans. I work in healthcare but dream of science fiction.

4. Love to laugh. Sometimes I even make other people laugh. My humor is either amazing or terrible depending on the day & who you ask. In other news, I’ve landed in middle age and want to make sure I’m continuing to learn and grow and make the most of my second-half.

3. Storyteller. Politico. Comedian. Learning to open my heart to the world. Every action is an act of creation.

2. Where are the people who can have disagreements without being disagreeable? I want to talk to you. Curious adventurer of life who thrives on meaningful conversations.

1. Hey there. I’m here for the humans.

Are you seeking depth in the age of shallow? The deep end’s over here. Dive in.
