How To Cash In Betting Anthony Joshua Vs. Kubrat Pulev: 5 Bets Where Oddsmakers Provide Value

The Anthony Joshua vs. Kubrat Pulev unified heavyweight world title fight on December 12 in London has a lot at stake. In order for Joshua to preserve his undisputed heavyweight world title fight with Tyson Fury in 2021, he must defeat Pulev, who is the IBF mandatory.

According to the boxing odds at BetOnline, Joshua is a -1000 favorite (wager $1000 to win $100) and Pulev is an underdog at +600 (wager $100 to win $600). The line for the total rounds is over 6 1/2 at -120 (wager $120 to win $100) and under 6 1/2 rounds at -105 (wager $105 to win $100).

Before I get into my best bets and where I feel the oddsmakers provided value, I am picking Anthony Joshua to win by knockout. Now that we’ve established this, there’s no line value in betting Joshua to win at -1000 and although +600 is an attractive underdog bet for Pulev, I give Pulev a very limited chance of winning this fight. Although Pulev has only one loss on his record, a respectable one at that, to Wladimir Klitschko in 2014 via fifth round knockout. Pulev shouldn’t be an issue for Joshua, who has both the two-inch advantage in height and four-inch advantage in reach. Joshua is also nine years younger than the challenger, Pulev.

I’ve been ringside for Pulev’s last two fights and I just don’t see how Pulev, at 39 years old and the smaller of the two heavyweights is going to be able to defeat Joshua. Joshua, the 2012 Olympic Gold Medal winner in the super heavyweight division is the more skilled boxer of the two in addition to being the bigger puncher. Pulev doesn’t have the firepower to stop Joshua. I expect Pulev to use bully techniques to try and throw Joshua off of his game in the hopes he can rough him up and throw shots inside like Andy Ruiz did. The only difference is that Pulev isn’t Andy Ruiz. However, if Pulev chooses to go that route, I feel this is going to contribute to Pulev walking into a big shot and ending his night.

In addition to the three best bets below, there are two additional alternate round betting bonus best bets in this Fight Guys preview to further provide value for sports bettors.

While there isn’t value in betting Joshua to win the fight at -1000, there are other bets that have value for sports bettors.

1.) Anthony Joshua to win by KO, TKO, or DQ -250 (Wager $250 to win $100). Anthony Joshua will stop Kubrat Pulev in this fight. The fight will take place at the SSE Wembley Arena in front of 1,000 fans that are allowed in attendance. Aside from a very intimate environment, Joshua will be fighting at home and will be extremely focused and comfortable. Joshua will find his distance and rhythm early that will lead to a clean look at Pulev and ultimately, the knockout. At some point, Pulev is going to slow down and stand right in front of Joshua which will be his undoing. I simply can’t see Pulev going the distance. At -250, the method of victory bet provides a lot more value than just betting Joshua to win.

2.) Under 6 1/2 rounds  -105 (Wager $105 to win $100). The fact that I’m picking Joshua to win by knockout indicates that I do not feel this fight is going to go the distance. With that being said, I don’t think this fight will get to the midway point of the seventh round, leading me to pick the under in the rounds. At -105 it’s practically even money and excellent value. I just don’t think that Pulev will be able to defend himself from the bigger, more athletic Joshua and will take big shots from rounds four to six, with the knockout coming in that range.

3.) Pulev to be knocked down in rounds 1-3 +200 (Wager $100 to win $200). One other prop bet I like is for Pulev to be knocked down in rounds 1-3 at +200. While he might not get knocked out within the first three rounds, it’s very conceivable that he can find himself on the seat of his pants early after tasting Joshua’s power. There’s enough value at +200 that it’s worth the risk.
