James Harden Says Rockets Are ‘Just Not Good Enough,’ But No Trade Is Imminent: Report

James Harden says the Rockets are “just not good enough” to compete for an NBA championship, but no trade involving the Houston star is imminent, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Following Houston’s 117-100 home loss to the reigning NBA champion Lakers on Tuesday, Harden came as close to demanding a trade as he has yet this season, saying the Rockets are “just not good enough … I love this city. I literally have done everything that I can. I mean, this situation is crazy. It’s something that I don’t think can be fixed.”

On Tuesday, he scored 16 points in the loss, marking the first time since 2012 he has gone four straight games without scoring 20 points.

Harden turned up late for training camp with the Rockets because he was partying in Atlanta and Las Vegas, and has been connected to trade rumors since before the season began.

Harden is still owed $132 million over the next two years, and no trade is imminent. He has been linked to various teams, including Brooklyn and Philadelphia.

Last month, Jalen Rose said the rumors surrounding Harden could “wreck” the Nets locker room. The Nets, meantime, are dealing with their own saga while Kyrie Irving has missed four games and counting for “personal reasons.”

“As long as the Harden trade speculation is hanging over the Nets and the Sixers, I think it has the chance to wreck both of those locker rooms and force neither one of those teams to reach their goals,” Rose said.

“They’re going to win a lot of regular-season games, both of these squads may win a playoff round or two, but we saw this a couple of years ago with the Lakers and the Pelicans. Those two teams never met expectations because everyone knew Anthony Davis was going to end up with the Lakers. So if you’re one of those teams and you’re really trying to get James Harden, you have to pull the trigger or you’re going to waste all of the equity of a guy like Caris LeVert built in the bubble, and Spencer Dinwiddie, all of this great play that these guys showed you that they have promise, but they’re not going to be able to reach it knowing that they just took a team photo and they might not even be there in another week.”
