Jerry Falwell Jr. Quits As President Of Liberty U. After Allegation Of Affair Involving Pool Boy

A university official confirmed to the Washington Post that Falwell agreed to resign from Liberty University, one of the world’s largest evangelical Christian schools, on Monday. 

Falwell has been involved in multiple scandals since taking over as president of the school founded by his father, Jerry Falwell Sr., in 2007, and was put on “indefinite leave” on August 7 for sharing a picture of himself on social media with his pants unzipped and his arm around a woman that many deemed inappropriate.

Hours before Falwell’s resignation, a former pool attendant turned business partner of Falwell’s publicly detailed what he claimed was a years-long sexual relationship with Falwell and his wife Becki that started when the couple encountered the 20-year-old while at a Miami Beach hotel. 

“Becki and I developed an intimate relationship and Jerry enjoyed watching from the corner of the room,” Giancarlo Granda, now 29 years old, told Reuters, describing sexual encounters in hotels in Miami and New York, and at the couple’s Virginia home, “multiple times per year.” 

In a statement, sent to The Washington Examiner on Sunday evening before the Reuters story was published, Falwell said that his wife had engaged in an “inappropriate personal relationship” with an unnamed man which he had used to try and extort money from them; Falwell made no mention of his own involvement. 

Falwell’s lawyer Michael Bowe told Forbes he could not confirm the report and Liberty University has not yet responded to a request for comment.
