Journalist Blames ‘Spoiled Little Boy’ James Rodriguez For Real Madrid Exit

The relationship between professional football players and journalists can sometimes be a fractious one.

Although each helps the other in certain aspects, when things turn sour, the sparks generally fly.

That’s certainly the case with regards to outgoing Real Madrid star, James Rodriguez.

The Colombian has endured a torrid time at the Santiago Bernabeu, and although things looked up for the shortest of periods once he’d returned from a season-long loan at Bayern Munich, there is no doubt that his future is now away from the Spanish capital.

Loss of form could be blamed, but one journalist, Ivan Mejia, has called out the player’s attitude towards managers as being the major reason why he will find himself plying his trade elsewhere in 2020/21.

Speaking to Corillo de Mao, Mejia didn’t hold back.

“James is a spoiled little boy,” he said. “He didn’t want to be a footballer or to succeed.

“Unfortunately he thought he was the main figure, but at Real Madrid that was Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He stopped being a footballer and began to be a figurine. He was never a professional because he thought he owned the team.

“He fought with [Rafael] Benitez, he fought with [Claudio] Ranieri at Monaco… he doesn’t like anyone.

“It’s because of him, don’t blame the coaches. It’s not Zidane’s fault, the club told him that he has to have the player, but he caught him several times speaking badly.

“If [Carlos] Queiroz has removed James from the Colombia team it’s because he can’t stand him [the player] speaking ill of him.”

Mejia’s outburst certainly puts a different spin on why James hasn’t been getting a look in during the current season, even when it’s been obvious that he was the best player for a particular role.

A not insignificant weekly wage off of the books would allow Florentino Perez to dip into the transfer market again, but whether the president will get involved in ensuring that any new player has the right character as much as the ability is a moot point.

Signed because he was one of the best players at the 2014 World Cup, the Colombian initially justified his fee, and became an integral part of the squad.

However, things soon took a turn for the worst, and now we can more fully understand the reasons why.

There’s little doubt that James remains a good player, but he hasn’t been able to showcase the full range of his talents over the last 12 months because of his relationship with Zidane.

There’s only ever one winner in that argument and if the player thought he could just stroll in and be the kingpin, then he’s had a swift reality check.

Life certainly does come at you hard in certain scenarios, and James would do well to just get his head down now and prove to everyone that’s he’s still he lethal attacking midfielder that Real believed they were buying a few years ago.
