Machine Gun Kelly, Zayn, Travis Scott And Pop Smoke: 5 Important Moves On This Week’s Hot 100

The unstoppable Travis Scott is back at No. 1 this week, starting yet another single as high as one can go. The track is one of a dozen debuts on the Hot 100 this time around, with one-quarter of those coming from the same musician.

Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart.

No. 1 – Travis Scott – “Franchise (ft. Young Thug & M.I.A.)”

Travis Scott and Young Thug return to the Hot 100’s summit this week with “Franchise,” while fellow featured musician M.I.A. scores her first leader on the tally. The tune debuts in first place, giving the lead star his third immediate champion on the ranking, which helps him join a very small group of some of the most successful artists of all time.

Scott is now just the fifth act to start a trio of tunes atop the Hot 100. He joins fellow titans Drake, Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande in this incredible feat.

No. 19 – Jason Alden – “Got What I Got”

Country superstar Jason Aldean is still promoting his latest album 9, which he released last November…and amazingly, he has now landed his biggest hit from the set, almost a full year on. “Got What I Got” steps up to No. 19 this week, entering the top 20 for the first time. The tune is his fifth top 20 on the tally.

No. 28 – Machine Gun Kelly – “My Ex’s Best Friend” with Blackbear

As his new album Tickets to My Downfall opens at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, Machine Gun Kelly also enjoys one of his best frames on the Hot 100, as he occupies four spots on the tally. Up first among the quartet of tunes comes “My Ex’s Best Friend,” a collaboration with fellow artist Blackbear. That cut vaults from No. 58 to No. 28, giving both acts another top 40 win.

Three tracks from Tickets to My Downfall debut on the Hot 100 this time around, with “Forget Me Too” with Halsey, “Bloody Valentine” and “Drunk Face” launching at Nos. 44, 50 and 91, respectively.

No. 40 – Pop Smoke – “What You Know Bout Love”

Pop Smoke’s “What You Know Bout Love,” one of many cuts featured on his debut album Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, hits an important new high on this week’s Hot 100, as it pushes to No. 40, entering the top 40 for the first time. While it hasn’t been selected as a single just yet, fans have identified the cut as a favorite, and it may soon receive a proper promotional push.

“What You Know Bout Love” is Smoke’s ninth top 40 hit on the Hot 100.

No. 89 – Zayn – “Better”

After taking some time off following the release of his underwhelming sophomore solo album Icarus Falls, Zayn is back with a new single, and it’s off to a slow, but solid start. “Better” is assumed to be the first sample of a forthcoming full-length, though nothing has been announced yet. The tune kicks off its time on the Hot 100 at No. 89.
