Mariah Carey, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa And The Weeknd: 5 Important Moves On This Week’s Hot 100

On this week’s Hot 100, Billie Eilish almost collected her second No. 1 hit, The Weeknd breaks a very tough record and Christmas comes early, as Mariah Carey’s biggest success returns as the season turns cold.

Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart.

No. 2 – Billie Eilish – “Therefore I Am”

Last week, Billie Eilish debuted her new single “Therefore I Am” at No. 94 on the Hot 100, but it was apparently destined for greater heights. In its second frame on the tally, the tune vaults all the way to No. 2, narrowly failing to become the dark-pop singer’s second ruler. The cut nabs one of the largest jumps in the chart’s history, lifting an impressive 92 spaces in one step.

No. 7 – The Weeknd – “Blinding Lights”

While it might not have earned any Grammy nominations (which was truly the shock of the year), The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” is still going strong on the Hot 100. This week, the cut lands at No. 7 in its fortieth frame on the list, which is a new record. The Canadian musician’s latest chart-topper now holds the record for the most turns spent inside the top 10, and it will likely add to its already impressive total in the coming months.

No. 20 – Dua Lipa – “Levitating (ft. DaBaby)”

It looked for a while like Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” was destined to be remembered as a minor single, but now with rapper DaBaby on board, the song has experienced a noticeable surge in popularity in the U.S. The Future Nostalgia tune breaks into the top 20 for the first time this week, becoming the third such win from that set.

No. 29 – Mariah Carey – “All I Want for Christmas is You”

Winter is coming, and you can tell because Americans have started buying and streaming Mariah Carey’s unstoppable holiday smash “All I Want for Christmas is You” yet again. The song returns to the Hot 100 at No. 29 this week, and it is bound to gain ground for the rest of the year. In fact, it could already be on its way to the top 10, and possibly back to No. 1.

No. 31 – Future & Lil Uzi Vert – “Drankin N Smokin”

Hip-hop powerhouses Future and Lil Uzi Vert surprise-released their joint album Pluto x Baby Pluto a week ago, and this frame it opens at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, coming in behind only the latest release from rockers AC/DC. 10 tracks from the project find their way to the Hot 100, with “Drankin N Smokin” starting off as the highest-charting of the bunch.
