‘Multiple People’ Within WWE Have Reportedly Tested Positive For Covid-19

WWE has reportedly had numerous people within the company test positive for Covid-19.

According to a report from Pro Wrestling Sheet, “multiple people in WWE” tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this week: “Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned multiple people in WWE who have been at the Performance Center tested positive for COVID-19 this week, including in-ring talent. While it’s unclear when they were tested exactly, or how many of them were for wrestlers, sources tell us at least three people who had been at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando received positive test results this week.”

The Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez noted that WWE conducted Covid-19 testing on Monday, and though no further details on that round of testing have been released, that testing followed last week’s disastrous TV tapings that were cancelled and postponed following the company’s announcement that a developmental talent who had been present at the Performance Center tapings had tested positive for Covid-19. WWE had to make swift changes to its TV taping schedule in order to administer Covid-19 tests to roster members and developmental talent as well as family members and friends of superstars who had served as faux fans at the company’s TV tapings.

On the heels of PWInsider’s report that last week’s SmackDown taping would be delayed until this Friday, Wrestling Inc reported that WWE’s immediate TV taping schedule would be as follows:

  • Friday, June 26th: That night’s SmackDown (via PWInsider)
  • Monday, June 29th: Raw (June 29th episode), Smackdown (Jule 3rd episode), Main Event and 205 Live
  • Tuesday, June 30th: Raw (July 6th), Smackdown (July 7th), Main Event and 205 Live

However, John Pollock of POST Wrestling reports that WWE has once again adjusted its TV taping schedule: “POST Wrestling was informed by one source that talent and crew were informed on Tuesday night that they would have to arrive early this week as testing will be conducted prior to the tapings taking place Friday and Saturday. A second person we spoke with noted they were tested today (Wednesday) with testing taking place on Thursday, as well. Multiple sources noted that the new schedule will see double tapings of SmackDown & Raw on both Friday and Saturday this week.”

Both AEW and WWE’s TV tapings have been thrown into disarray due to the Covid-19 pandemic era. As noted by Pro Wrestling Sheet, “According to the Associated Press, the single day count of new confirmed coronavirus cases in Florida went up to 5,500 people on Wednesday. This is triple the level from two weeks ago.” WWE and AEW have both been hosting their TV tapings in Florida, and on Wednesday, AEW revealed that both Jon Moxley and QT Marshall were removed from this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite due to concerns about “having been exposed to the Covid-19 virus.” In addition, Marhsall’s wrestling school students will not be working the tapings after previously performing as “fans” and enhancement talent.

Moxley and Marshall are among the numerous high-profile names who have missed TV tapings due to the Covid-19 pandemic, joining the likes of Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns. WWE was reportedly hoping to bring back live events with fans in attendance by the end of the summer, but a recent spike in Covid-19 cases in Florida in particular, where most of the AEW and WWE TV tapings have been held over the past few months, has put the status of WWE’s immediate live event tapings in jeopardy.

At the time of this writing, WWE has not commented on Pro Wrestling Sheet’s report. I have reached out to WWE for an official statement on the matter and will update accordingly.
