Neil Cavuto Warns Viewers Against Following Trump’s Advice On Drug: ‘Be Very, Very Careful’

After President Trump stunned reporters Monday by saying he was taking the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a preventive measure against the coronavirus, Fox Business anchor Neil Cavuto warned viewers not to follow the president’s lead.

“If you are in a risky population here, and you are taking this as a preventative treatment to ward off the virus—or, in a worst case scenario you are dealing with the virus and you are in this vulnerable population—it will kill you,” Cavuto said. “I cannot stress this enough. This will kill you.”

Cavuto cited research into hydroxychloroquine as a Covid-19 treatment or preventive that found no benefits to the use of the drug. “Whatever benefits the president says this (drug) has, this is a leap that should not be taken casually by those watching at home saying ‘well, the President of the United States says it’s okay,’” Cavuto added.

Cavuto—who has covered the drug and the president’s public comments endorsing it with regard to the coronavirus—later asked a medical expert about Mr. Trump’s message to Americans who may be living in terror of acquiring the virus. “The president says ‘what have you got to lose,’… it sounds like what you’re saying, you have a risk of losing your life if you do what the president just recommended,” Cavuto asked of Mr. Bob Lahita. “That’s correct,” Lahita responded.

Cavuto said he wasn’t making a political argument, but a public safety one, saying that he sought only to make a “life-and death point. Be very, very careful.”
