The 2020 NFL Draft is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing and unique drafts in history. Not only is the class one of the deepest we have seen in years—especially at key positions like quarterback, wide receiver, interior defensive line and offensive tackle—but it’s also the first time the draft will be conducted remotely due to coronavirus precautions. Instead of holding the event in front of fans on a stage on the Las Vegas strip, the league will instead be teleconferencing to announce picks and using live feeds to show prospects learning where they will be plying their talents at the professional level.

Despite the unconventional change in format, the 2020 NFL Draft could end up becoming one of the most watched drafts in history, given there has been almost no other significant and meaningful live content from any of the major American sports. Oddsmakers, who have been suffering due to the lack of events to wager on (New Jersey operators won just $13.2 million in March, down nearly 60% year-over-year), are trying to capitalize on the hype by creating a multitude of intriguing props related to the uniqueness of this draft. While these sportsbooks are still offering their standard draft odds—which include lines for the total number of players taken at each position in the first round and over/unders on where the most notable prospects will come off the board—they’ve come up with a plethora of unusual exotics that cover areas ranging from apparel (how many draftees will be shown with a tie on, how many will wear glasses) to pets (over/unders for the number of dogs and cats that will be seen on the stream) and even if any prospects will imbibe, with odds on whether or not a prospect will pop champagne or drink a beer.

While these props are a fun distraction, most bettors will be focusing their wagers on the most popular prospects and where they will be selected. You won’t be able to find odds on the first pick, however, as it has long been a foregone conclusion that the Cincinnati Bengals will be taking LSU quarterback Joe Burrow when they are on the clock at the start of the 2020 NFL Draft tonight at 8 p.m. ET. The No. 2 pick isn’t set in stone yet, but most experts believe that the Washington Redskins will go with Ohio State’s Chase Young, something the books agree with based on the -1450 odds—meaning one would need to risk $14.50 to return $1—that the pass-rusher will land in the nation’s capital. Things start to get more interesting at No. 3, a spot that the Detroit Lions currently occupy. There have been rumors that the Lions are entertaining offers to trade down and a move there could jump-start a frenzy of deals during the first round. Should Detroit stand pat, bookies believe the organization will tap Jeffrey Okudah, a shutdown corner out of Ohio State.

No one should be surprised if Detroit opts to swing a deal at some point today, as shops are projecting a good number of trades to go down on the first day of the 2020 NFL Draft. The over/under on first round trades is 5.5 and the odds of a top-10 pick being exchanged is -800. The biggest buzz right now involves the Miami Dolphins and their reported desire to move up a spot or two, as they own a trio of first-round selections (Nos. 5, 18 and 26) and a pair of second-round picks (Nos. 39 and 56) that could convince one of the teams ahead of them to trade back. If the ‘Phins can move up, signals suggest it would be for an offensive tackle instead of a quarterback, the position many mocked their way at No. 5.

Dov Kleinman reported that the Dolphins may even be angling to get to the very top of the 2020 NFL Draft to secure Joe Burrow:

It would be hard to fault Miami if it went after a promising offensive tackle, as this draft has a handful of elite prospects at the position. There are as many as eight offensive lineman that could end up having their name called tonight, with Vegas setting the over/under at 6.5. That is tied with defensive back for most of any positional group and just ahead of wide receiver at a projected 5.5 total taken within the first 32 picks. The wideout class of the 2020 NFL Draft looks to be a special one, with some mocks having as many as 10 receivers coming off the board within before the 61^st selection.

Most of the attention is surrounding Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III—both from Alabama—and CeeDee Lamb of Oklahoma, the three prospects who all can make a legitimate case to be the first off the board this evening. Lamb has the slightest of edges to win that competition, getting -120 odds that put him just slightly ahead of Jeudy at +125 and Ruggs at +400. A unique prop regarding this trio of star-caliber receivers involves the exact order in which they will be picked, with oddsmakers offering between +225 (for Lamb, Jeudy and Ruggs to be selected in that order) and +3300 (for Ruggs, Lamb, Jeudy) to bettors wanting to hit the draft’s version of a trifecta.

While the offensive linemen and receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft class are undeniably talented, no players are garnering more attention this year than the quarterbacks. Burrow has been the surefire top pick for quite some time, but there should be plenty of drama unfolding around the remaining first-round quality signal-callers and where they will land. Tua Tagovailoa was once believed to be the no-brain selection for a QB-needy franchise after Burrow was gone, but that is no longer the case and the odds reflect the shift in thinking. Tua’s projected draft position has fallen from 3.5 to 5.5 and many books currently have major liability on the quarterback being selected after Oregon’s Justin Herbert. Herbert has been steadily climbing up big boards and is now only slightly behind Tagovailoa to be the second quarterback drafted according to oddsmakers. Herbert is now +110 to be the next QB off the board after Burrow, while Tua is down to -160. Bettors can find -135 odds on Herbert being the third signal-caller selected, while Tagovailoa is +125 on that same wager.
