Now Only Mark Wahlberg Stands In The Way Of Adam Sandler And ‘Hubie Halloween’ Breaking This Monumental Netflix Record

Today, Adam Sandler went where very few movie stars on Netflix have ever gone before. His latest Happy Madison film, Hubie Halloween, just notched another day in the #1 position on Netflix’s Top 10 Movies list. That marks 13 consecutive showings in first place—a feat only two other movies have accomplished.

But if Adam Sander wants to stand above the rest, then he’s got to catch up to Mark Wahlberg.

Hubie Halloween already became the first comedy on Netflix to achieve a #1 streak of at least ten days this past weekend. But reaching 13 consecutive days in first place means the film is now tied with Project Power and Spenser Confidential as the only movies to ever pull that off.

Jamie Foxx’s action film Project Power saw its first-place streak take place between August 14-26. That performance led to Project Power ranking as the #1 film on Netflix in the month of August (you can more about my points-based Netflix ranking system here) and the #3 movie of this past summer.

But not even that legendary performance from Jamie Foxx and Project Power could touch what Mark Wahlberg and Spenser Confidential pulled off back in March 2020. Just a few days after the Top 10 feature was established on Netflix, Wahlberg’s crime/thriller began a first-place streak of its own—a streak that would last for 18 days. Between March 6-23, Spenser Confidential retained control of Netflix’s Top 10 charts for movies, beating out films like Lost Girls, 2012 and The Angry Birds Movie 2 (which is currently the second-most-popular movie of the year on Netflix, by the way) during its run.

Those 18 days in first place? Nobody besides Adam Sandler and Jamie Foxx has come even close to matching a streak like that.

But come this time on Sunday, Hubie Halloween could very well have pulled it off.

After all, Sandler’s latest film has held onto the #1 spot since October 7. That made Hubie Halloween the first movie to dethrone American Murder: The Family Next Door from its reign atop the Top 10 list. Since then, Sander’s comedy has fended off potential upsets from National Lampoon’s Girls’ Rules, Moneyball and The Trial of the Chicago 7 in order to retain its stronghold.

But if there’s any movie that will truly take down Hubie Halloween from the #1 position, then it’ll hit Netflix this week. Rebecca—the Alfred Hitchcock update starring Lily James and Armie Hammer—will premier on the streaming service tomorrow. And if Hubie Halloween can remain in first place after Rebecca, then it’ll have to withstand Netflix’s animated film Over the Moon, which comes to the streaming platform this Friday.

But after Rebecca and Over the Moon have had their turns, there aren’t any potential threats to Hubie Halloween—in fact, there won’t be any more movies added to Netflix until October 27. So if Adam Sandler’s latest comedy does in fact fight off both of those films and holds onto the #1 spot through Monday, then Hubie Halloween will truly stand alone as the most viral Netflix movie of the Top 10 era.
