Suga Is The First BTS Member To Chart Several Solo Hits On The U.S. Sales Chart

BTS is no stranger to pushing hit singles on to Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks the bestselling tracks on platforms like iTunes and Amazon
AMZN
in the U.S. Throughout their time together, the act has now accrued an incredible 42 placements on the list, including 15 top 10s and three chart-toppers.

While BTS as a whole is now accustomed to landing on the sales chart, not all of the members individually have reached the list, and the few who have managed to see their solo monikers appear somewhere on the ranking have only done so once…that is, until this week.

This time around, BTS member Suga’s new single “Eight,” a collaboration with female singer-songwriter IU, opens at No. 13, becoming a solid hit for both acts. The track impressively manages to debut as the thirteenth most-purchased title in the country after only two days of availability, as it was released in the middle of a tracking period. The song still sold just under 7,000 copies, performing better than many new tunes pushed by superstars.

“Eight” is Suga’s second solo placement on the Digital Song Sales chart, and he is now the first member of BTS to land on the ranking more than once under his own name. He first reached the list late last year as a credited guest on Halsey’s aptly-titled “Suga’s Interlude.” That track, which is featured on the pop singer’s new album Manic, reached the highest tier, opening at No. 10, where it held for just one frame.

Oddly, “Suga’s Interlude” was credited to both BTS and Suga as a soloist, so it should be included in the two act’s separate career counts.

Only two other members of BTS have placed on the Digital Song Sales chart, and they’ve both done so just once. J-Hope became the first performer from the septet to reach the ranking without his fellow bandmates in 2019 when he and Becky G debuted their collaborative cut “Chicken Noodle Soup” inside the top 10 (it stalled at No. 9). Just a few months later in early 2020, RM joined the club thanks to the song “Winter Flower,” a piece he worked on with fellow musician Younha. That tune rose as high as No. 30 this past January.
