‘The Boys’ Antony Starr Mocks Trump Fans Cosplaying As Homelander

Homelander, the most compelling character in Amazon’s satirical superhero series The Boys, is an unhinged narcissist who happens to be hero-worshipped by his oblivious fanbase.  

The show arrived just in time to parallel current events, and the second season not-so-subtly pushed the similarities, as Homelander becomes romantically entangled with a literal Nazi, mirroring the alarming rise of the alt-right. 

Turns out, satire is dead, as a couple of Trump supporters were photographed cosplaying as Homelander during last week’s optimistically titled “Million MAGA March,” using the character’s costume to depict Donald Trump arresting Joe Biden. 

Eric Kripke, showrunner of The Boys, saw the photo and tweeted: 

“Um… are they actually watching the show?” 

They certainly are – many Trump supporters seem to unironically enjoy seeing their beliefs caricatured through sadistic characters – the less subtle, the better. 

The talented Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, quoted Kripke’s Tweet with his own assessment of the situation:

It doesn’t seem to matter how on-the-nose a political parody is – the most feverishly loyal segment of Trump’s fanbase will always view these caricatures as wish fulfillments, rather than critiques.

I wonder what they thought of Homelander’s “I can do whatever what I want” scene?
