‘The Lighthouse’ And 10 Other New Movies Available To Stream On Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, And HBO This Weekend

Today, Robert Eggers’ long-awaited follow-up to the lowly-budgeted and highly-praised The Witch hits Amazon Prime Video. The Lighthouse, starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, is an intense, brooding horror flick that’s now available to the millions of Amazon Prime subscribers.

In addition to The Lighthouse, a number of other big recent movies will become available this weekend on Amazon Prime—as well as Netflix, Hulu and HBO. Here are some of the highlights you can check out this weekend.

The Lighthouse (Amazon Prime)

As previously stated, The Lighthouse is a mysterious horror film packed full of suspense and surprises (and mermaids). The Eggers film follows two lighthouse keepers (Pattinson and Dafoe) who try to keep their sanity on a remote island in New England.

Selah and the Spades (Amazon Prime)

Selah and the Spades premiered in 2019 at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was purchased by Amazon Studios. In her directorial debut, Tayarisha Poe tells a high school tale about a girl named Selah who heads a drug ring of students called the “Spades.” As she prepares to graduate, she searches for a replacement leader.

The Art of Racing in the Rain (HBO)

Based upon the bestselling book, The Art of Racing in the Rain follows Formula One racer Denny Swift. Outside of that high speed career, Denny’s life is consumed with his wife, his daughter and his dog—a dog that wishes to be reincarnated into a human.

Stuber (HBO)

We may not get Kumail Nanjiani in The Eternals in 2020 after all, but his first leading role in a summer blockbuster is still available. Stuber, which came out last year, follows Nanjiani’s character Stu, an Uber driver whose vehicle is commandeered by a detective named Vic (played by Dave Bautista).

Harry Benson: Shoot First (Hulu)

Celebrated photographer Harry Benson rose to prominence back in the 1960s when he covered The Beatles’ inaugural trip to the U.S. Harry Benson: Shoot First tracks the legendary career that proceeded that culturally defining moment.

This is Not Berlin (Hulu)

From Mexican director Hari Sama, This is Not Berlin follows an adolescent in Mexico City who doesn’t feel he fits in anywhere—that is until he finds solace in a mythical nightclub where he discovers the underground nightlife scene.

Earth and Blood (Netflix)

Not much is known about this Netflix original, but the trailer promises heavy artillery and lots of action. Earth and Blood centers on a man who runs a sawmill in Belgium—until he’s forced to ward off some unexpected visitors.

The Legacy of the Bones (Netflix)

The Legacy of the Bones is the second movie in a Spanish horror trilogy headed by Netflix. The first movie—The Invisible Guardian—follows a police officer who traces a serial killer back to his hometown. In the trilogy’s second film, our main character is faced with a similar mystery in the Baztan Valley.

Sergio (Netflix)

This 2020 project comes from Greg Barker, who’s known for his artistic political dramas. Sergio follows a United Nations diplomat who must fight for his life when a bomb strikes Baghdad.

Jem and the Holograms (Netflix)

This musical recreation of the beloved 1980s animated series Jem follows the outrageous adventures of a music company owner who lives a secret life as a rock star. The movie comes from the visionary mind of director John M. Chu, who would go on to make Crazy Rich Asians and Now You See Me 2.

The Green Hornet (Netflix)

While Seth Rogen’s foray into the superhero genre isn’t talked about much these days, The Green Hornet did manage to pull in $227.8 million at the box office back in 2011. The Michel Gondry film is a recreation of the 1936 radio thriller about a masked crime-fighting superhero.
