A day after the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was looking into allegations a group of pro-Trump vehicles attempted to drive a Biden-Harris campaign bus off the highway, President Trump appeared to rewrite history during a rally Sunday, claiming the supporters were merely “protecting” the bus “because they’re nice.”

On Saturday, videos emerged online of a group of a dozen or so vehicles bearing Trump flags tailing and surrounding a Biden campaign bus on a Texas highway. The bus was carrying U.S. House candidate and former Texas legislator Wendy Davis on her way to a campaign event in the area. The Biden campaign told Forbes the pickups “attempted to slow the bus down and run it off the road,” and that the campaign called law enforcement for an escort and then canceled the campaign stop out of an “abundance of caution.” Some conservatives online have disputed the Biden campaign’s allegations, claiming the bus and a white SUV accompanying the bus were straddling lanes. Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler, a Republican, told the Texas Tribune the Biden campaign did not alert his office about the trip beforehand. “The planning of this was questionable,” he said.
