Trump’s Last Act In Office May Be Pardoning Fox News Host Jeanine Pirro’s Ex-Husband

Topline

Less than an hour before his term expired, President Trump granted a full pardon to Albert Pirro, the ex-husband of Fox News host and former judge Jeanine Pirro, who was convicted of conspiracy and tax evasion in 2000.

Key Facts

The White House confirmed the pardon which, according to multiple reports, was granted while Trump was en route to Florida, where he will be staying at his club Mar-a-Lago.

Pirro, a lawyer and a lobbyist, spent nearly a year in federal prison after prosecutors said he improperly deducted $1.2 million of his personal expenses as business write-offs.

Pirro, 73, previously represented Trump as a real estate lawyer, while his former wife has been one of the president’s most vocal defenders at Fox News (the two divorced in 2013).

Key Background

This final pardon comes less than 12 hours after Trump pardoned and commuted the sentences of 143 people, including former campaign chief Steve Bannon, who was charged with defrauding donors to a border wall-building fundraiser.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
