Jairzinho Rozenstruik made his professional MMA debut in 2012. He fought twice that year and scored first-round knockout wins in each of those contests. Rozenstruik spent the next five years focused on kickboxing. When he returned to MMA in 2017, he rattled off three knockout wins and one decision victory before he joined the UFC in 2019. Rozenstruik faced Junior Albini in his UFC debut.
Albini began his UFC career in 2016. He scored a knockout win over Timothy Johnson in his debut. When he faced Rozenstruik, Albini was coming off losses to Andrei Arlovski and Aleksei Oleinik.
The matchup between Albini and Rozenstruik took place in Albini’s home country of Brazil. The pair had combined for 17 stoppage victories before they met inside the octagon at UFC Fight Night 144.
The odds favored the home town fighter. Albini was a -130 favorite while Rozenstruik came in as a +110 underdog.
Albini took the fight to the mat early and worked from half guard. Albini stepped free and into side control after a brief struggle and then looked for a kimura submission. With three minutes left in the first stanza, Rozenstruik got to his feet, but thirty seconds later, Albini again took the fight to the mat. Not long after that, the two returned to their feet, where they spent the rest of the round.
The first 45 seconds of the second round were slow. The two faced each other from distance, but when Albini reached down for a takedown, Rozenstruik landed a big punch that stood up his opponent. From there, Rozenstruik unleashed more hard punches that dropped Albini to the mat and brought the contest to an end.
Rozenstruik won his next three fights by knockout to run his record to 10-0. He suffered his first career loss in May when former title challenger Francis Ngannou knocked him out in 20 seconds.
Tonight, Rozenstruik returns to the octagon to face former UFC champion Junior dos Santos, who is on the first two-fight losing streak of his career.
Before that fight happens, watch Rozenstruik stop Albini.
