UFC On ESPN 11 Stats And Video Highlights From Curtis Blaydes’ Record-Setting Win

Curtis Blaydes was ranked No.1 in UFC heavyweight history in takedowns landed when he stepped into the octagon last night to face Alexander Volkov in the main event of UFC on ESPN 11. By the time Blaydes had his hand raised in victory, he had added to his takedown total and put his name at the top of three other UFC heavyweight statistical categories.

Blaydes, who was the No. 3 ranked UFC heavyweight fighter heading into the contest, told fight fans what his plans were ahead of his matchup against the No. 7 ranked Volkov.

He lived up to his words.

Blaydes scored a UFC heavyweight record 14 takedowns on 25 attempts during the five-round fight. Those 14 takedowns moved Blaydes’ total number of successful takedowns to 59. That puts him 25 takedowns ahead of Cain Velasquez, who is in the second spot in that statistical category.

With his win, Blaydes also moved to the top of the all-time UFC heavyweight division list in control time (1:13:28) and top position time (59:44). At 29, Blaydes, who is 9-2-0-1 in UFC action, has plenty of time to put distance between himself and the rest of the UFC heavyweight division in those statistical categories.

UFC president Dana White was critical of Blaydes after the win, but the fighter shrugged off the complaints of the UFC boss.

“I know who I am now,” Blaydes said at the UFC on ESPN 11 post-fight press conference. “I’m the heel. You don’t like what I do? I like to make you mad. I like to win. That’s probably the best part about this win, is I predicted this, and I did it. Twenty-five minutes. Didn’t look the best, but I’m OK with having a gritty win like that, and I know a lot of fans didn’t like it, and I’m OK with that. It makes me happy.”

UFC on ESPN 11 took place last night at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. ESPN broadcast the event. ESPN+ also streamed the entire fight card.
