UFC On ESPN+ 32 Full Fight Video: Watch Aleksei Oleinik Submit Maurice Greene

Aleksei Oleinik had over 70 professional mixed martial arts fights to his name when he stepped into the UFC octagon to face Maurice Greene on the UFC 246 pay-per-view card, an event headlined by Conor McGregor vs. Donald Cerrone. During Oleinik’s career, which began in 1996, he had never lost more than two straight fights and that had only happened twice. Heading into his matchup against Greene, Oleinik was on a two-fight losing skid.

Greene, the former LFA heavyweight champion, opened his UFC run on a three-fight winning streak. That run ended when Sergei Pavlovich knocked him out in the first round of their October 2019 matchup. His bout opposite Oleinik followed that loss.

At the time of the matchup, Oleinik was the No. 12 ranked fighter in the official UFC heavyweight rankings. Greene, who had considerably less experience than his opponent at 11 fights, was unranked. The odds favored Greene. He was a -135 favorite over Oleinik, who came in as the +105 underdog.

Greene looked to use his striking in the early going, while Oleinik, who is an excellent ground fighter, looked to get the fight to the mat, which he did 45 seconds into the contest. Oleinik spent most of the first stanza looking to lock up one of his patented chokes. He came close, but Greene fought him off with strikes from the bottom.

Greene started the second round attempting to keep his distance. However, with 90 seconds ticked off the clock, Oleinik got the fight to the mat. From their Oleinik calmly looked for a submission. Greene did a solid job of fighting the submissions, but with 22 seconds left in the second stanza, Greene tapped to an armbar.
