WWE Elimination Chamber 2021 Results: Roman Reigns Destroys Daniel Bryan For Universal Title

Daniel Bryan won the SmackDown Elimination Chamber for a chance to face Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. In a match where Bryan sold an injury to his knee throughout, Roman Reigns walked out immediately after to defend his Universal Championship in a mauling. Reigns ultimately choked out Bryan with the Guillotine to retain.

Despite the one-sided win, the Universal Championship match was not without drama as Bryan caught Reigns in an early Yes Lock.

The SmackDown Elimination Chamber opened with a highly technical matchup between Daniel Bryan and Cesaro before the action picked up when Corbin entered the fray, powering his way through the two internet darlings. Just as it seemed Kevin Owens was gaining a head of steam with an elimination of Sami Zayn, Jey Uso used the cage to injure Owens’ arm followed by a frog splash for a shocking elimination.

The final two came down to Jey Uso and Daniel Bryan, where a hobbled Bryan was able to gut out a victory with a running knee.

Prior to the match, it was announced the winner of the SmackDown Elimination Chamber would face Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship “tonight!” however WWE announcer Greg Hamilton did not specify when that would be.

While Raw’s Elimination Chamber was filled with 40-year-olds and established stars, SmackDown’s Elimination Chamber did not stray too far from that formula with the youngest combatant being Jey Uso at 35 years old.

While WWE champion Drew McIntyre was made to defend his championship in the Raw Elimination Chamber, Head of the Table Roman Reigns flexed his (kayfabe) political muscle by sitting out the Chamber and challenging the winner immediately after.

Some felt this could finally be the coming out part for career Johnny-Come-Lately Cesaro, who has been pushed in recent weeks after reportedly re-signing with the company. Kevin Owens, who has tried and failed in three consecutive Universal Championship matches against Reigns, was also a favorite with Reigns’ cousin—and former No. 1 Contender—Jey Uso being a wildcard of sorts.

With Roman Reigns picking up a relatively easy win, he now figures to have his sights set on Edge, whom he got physical with for the first time after Spearing the WWE Hall of Famer as SmackDown went off the air. Reigns vs. Edge is reportedly on the books for WrestleMania 37 after Edge won the 2021 Royal Rumble, however nothing is set in stone for what looks to be another malleable WWE card.

With two of WWE’s most overpowered Superstars on a collision course for April’s biggest show of the year, there will be a lot of consternation as to who should win the Universal Championship come WrestleMania. At 47 years of age, Edge hardly needs another world title run in an aging WWE, however losing that match would extinguish a feel-good story at a show where the top babyface usually goes over.
