WWE Payback 2020 Results: Shayna Baszler And Nia Jax Win Tag Team Titles

Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax defeated Bayley and Sasha Banks in a magnificent WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match that accomplished many things.

By the end of the match, Shayna Baszler—who simultaneously submitted both Bayley and Sasha Banks—was made to look like a monster again. Bayley was the one who submitted, which lines up with the story of Bayley continuing to look out for herself. Baszler winning the championships by herself also furthers tensions between her and Nia Jax as reluctant tag team parters.

WWE, however, initially went the comedy route to promote this odd couple, with reluctant partners Baszler and Jax going back and forth last week in a segment that featured dated references in The Adams Family and The Munsters.

With Bayley and Sasha Banks headed for a sure split, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax could follow the same friends-to-enemies formula with the two essentially at odds from the very start.

Both Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax have dealt with recent struggles for entirely different reasons. Jax, who is coming off double-ACL surgery, was once again under fire earlier this year for in-ring safety concerns. After a series of matches against Kairi Sane, Jax was subjected to familiar criticisms and claims of being dangerous in the ring.

Shayna Baszler, meanwhile, debuted on Raw by biting Becky Lynch’s neck in a bizarre segment that raised concerns of whether or not Vince McMahon would really know what to do with a shoot fighter like Baszler. After a dominant run in NXT and the 2020 Royal Rumble, Baszler went on to lose her Raw Women’s Championship match to a pregnant Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36.

WWE was able to simultaneously rejuvenate the careers of both Bayley and Sasha Banks as main event acts through a tag team storyline. In Baszler and Jax, it is well on its way to finding similar success with a pair of far more unconventional female WWE Superstars.
