WWE Releases The Revival As An AEW Signing Remains Inevitable

After months of disgruntlement, trademark posturing and “where there’s smoke” moments, WWE has finally granted The Revival its release.

Just days after Dash Wilder appeared on Edge’s The Second Mountain documentary, the tandem is now on to its future endeavors as AEW remains the most likely destination.

Similar to Luke Harper and Matt Hardy before them, The Revival represent talented WWE Superstars who were overlooked by an increasingly disorganized administration that already has an excess of talent. AEW, which has taken flack for its recent signings of former WWE talent, will more than likely be all too eager to make WWE’s trash into its treasure.

Though Cody famously proclaimed that just 5% of WWE talent would be signed by AEW, and after Jericho’s comments that only six to eight of former WWE talent would be accepted in the promotion, AEW has since gone on a signing spree of former WWE talent. The signings of Harper, Hardy and the potential signing of The Revival would signal four former WWE signings in a matter of weeks as AEW’s roster already has well over eight former WWE Superstars.

The Revival-to-AEW has been the worst-kept secret in pro wrestling for years now. Even when WWE went through a rare wave of releases late last year, The Revival was a surprising name kept under contract in what was some believed was the promotion messing with the duo.

After a snakebitten run where both members suffered long-term injuries within weeks of its debut on the main roster, The Revival was never able to recapture the magic it had in NXT.

After The Elite coined the term “FTR,” a playful jab toward The Revival, on its popular Being the Elite YouTube series, The Revival literally took ownership of the term. “FTR” was one of many trademarks in which The Revival filed for with the assistance of Michael Dockins, who has assisted several AEW talents in the past.

Despite winning both the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships, seemingly as token title victories to entice them into re-signing, The Revival spun its wheels on the main roster as it continued to make overtures with The Elite.

Back in December of 2018, Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks sent the following tweet:

“One day we’ll wrestle The Revival & everyone will rejoice. Remember this tweet.”

The Revival backed the tweet, with even Wilder echoing “one day we’ll wrestle The Young Bucks and everyone will rejoice. Remember this tweet.”

On this day, it’s almost impossible to forget.
