4 Tourist Spots In Uttarakhand That Should Be Avoided During Monsoon – News18

Uttarakhand is known for picturesque places.

Robber’s Cave of Dehradun is an amazing spot during summers, but do not even think of going there during rainy days.

There are many places which are perfect to visit during the summer season, but it might be dangerous and hazardous to visit these spots during monsoon. Here are 5 tourist place of Uttarakhand which are paradise in summer, but dangerous in rain:

Robber’s Cave of Dehradun – It is an amazing spot during summers, but do not even think of going there during rainy days. This picturesque spot is a river cave formation, where the river flows underground and then re-emerges after a few metres. The strong currents in the caves can be very dangerous during the rainy days. In the month of July 2024, 10 youths who visited this spot for a picnic were suddenly trapped on an island due to the strong current of the river. After which the SDRF team was informed and the people were rescued.

Maldevta – When it comes to picnic spots, people also turn to Maldevta located on the outskirts of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, to have picnics on the banks of the river amidst beautiful valleys. This place is a hazard during the monsoon time. Recently, floods in Serki village of Maldevta left many families homeless. Here, there is a danger of rising water level of the river, debris falling on the road and landslides.

Kempty Falls – It is located in Mussoorie and is counted among the beautiful waterfalls of the state. In the summer, Kempty Falls becomes a haven for tourists escaping the heat of the plains. The falls are at their most inviting during this time, with cool, refreshing water cascading down from a height of about 40 feet into a large pool below. But as beautiful as it is in the summer, it becomes equally dangerous in the rainy season. Recently, the road going from Mussoorie to Kempty Falls collapsed due to heavy rains. Traffic had to be stopped there.

Sahastradhara – Anyone who comes to Dehradun to spend summer holidays with family or friends definitely should visit Sahastradhara. The main attraction at Sahastradhara is its natural sulphur springs. The water, rich in sulphur, is believed to have medicinal properties that can cure various skin ailments. Visitors often take a dip in the cool, clear waters of the spring, which are thought to rejuvenate the body and soul. But coming here these days is not without danger. When there is heavy rain in the mountainous areas, the water passes through this place and the water level suddenly rises which can sweep away a person.

Although Mussoorie, famous as the Queen of Hills and Dehradun, wins everyone’s heart with its beautiful valleys, its appearance can be terrifying during the rainy season. The hilly roads here can prove to be very dangerous and even fatal during the monsoon. Due to landslides, the Dehradun-Mussoorie road gets closed and the traffic is disrupted almost every day. From landslides to falling of boulders, anything can happen here, which can be very risky.
