Nick Jonas Sings ‘I Melt With You’ at a Karaoke Bar in ‘The Good Half’

In an exclusive clip of comedic drama The Good Half, Nick Jonas jumps on stage and belts out the lyrics to Modern English’s “I Melt With You” at a karaoke bar.

“I’ll stop the world and melt with you/ You’ve seen the difference and it’s getting better all the time,” Jonas sings in the clip, as Zoey, a romantic interest played by Alexandra Shipp, grins at his performance.

In The Good Half, Nick Jonas stars as a writer who goes back home to attend his mother’s funeral. Before Jonas’ character, Renn, can confront his grief, he fosters new relationships while healing old wounds. At the start of the Utopia film, Renn boards a flight a seat apart from Zoey, a therapist with a fear of flying. The two chat throughout the trip to ease her anxiety and build a budding romance as Renn heads home. The Robert Schwartzman-directed film includes cast members Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect), David Arquette (Scream), Matt Walsh (Veep), and Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas).

When Schwartzman was handed the script, he told Variety that he was drawn to the universal experience of mourning a loved one.

“I lost somebody close to me when I was very young; my dad passed away,” Schwartzman told Variety. “It’s scary to tell a story that’s very emotional and personal. But it’s important. It’s almost therapeutic.”

He and Jonas are lifelong friends: Schwartzman’s band Rooney opened for the Jonas Brothers tour in 2008, Variety reported. “Obviously, [Nick] is a very talented musician and has done incredible work as an actor,” Schwartzman told Variety when discussing why he chose Nick for the lead role. “But that initial vibe was there and the trust of being able to work with someone I could really collaborate with openly, who would be honest with me when I needed the honesty back.”

The Good Half premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2023. With select screenings on July 23 and July 25, Utopia has yet to announce a wide release date for the film. Jonas will also star in the Broadway production The Last Five Years alongside Adrienne Warren, which chronicles the life of two New Yorkers falling in and out of love over a five-year period. Jonas is also expected to feature in Power Ballad, a musical comedy directed by John Carney that follows a rockstar (Jonas) and a wedding singer, played by Paul Rudd.
