Sportsbook Apps Are Making The Move In NY

The time has finally come for sports betting in New York State. Sportsbook apps are finally legal and open for the public to use!  As of January 8, the New York State Gaming Commission approved sportsbooks apps, allowing sports betting in NY, meaning that residents of the Empire State can now download the app of their choice and start betting on ongoing sports events. Many of the major players are offering enticing welcome bonuses to kick off legal New York sports betting in style.

The news of New York’s legal sports app betting has been known as of last year when lawmakers fought to include it in the state’s 2022 budget. Sports betting has been legal in the state through casinos, but there was a lot of debate over how far the state should go into gambling. The eventual compromise was that online casino games wouldn’t be allowed, but that sports wagers would eventually. Even then, sports betting had to be casino-only through 2021 as the specifics of sportsbook apps were ironed out for early 2022. The state’s gaming commission approved some licenses ahead of time, but there was no specific date given for launch.

Now in January 2022, people are surprised to find that NY’s sportsbook apps are approved to go almost right away. Most guesses were for late January to be just in time for the Superbowl. Instead, NY residents can sign up right now for apps from big names like Caesar’s, DraftKings, Fanduel, BetMGM, and WynnBet.

Each platform offers different welcome bonuses with different rewards, so smart bettors will want to shop around before committing. Some give away free plays, others match your first deposit up to a certain amount, and some even offer physical rewards like jerseys if you use them for a period of time. The early January release gives users time to mess around with the different sportsbook apps and pick a favorite before big betting events like the Superbowl happen.

Sportsbook Apps Are Making The Move In NY

What we’re seeing in 2022 is a continued, widespread acceptance of gambling. This has a lot to do with the flurry of laws being passed around online gambling and sports betting. More and more places are allowing their people to access online casino games, participate in online poker, and take on the thrill of sports betting. With that comes a newfound interest in gambling in communities that are far away from brick-and-mortar casinos.

The United States could be considered the start of this wave thanks to a 2018 decision from the Supreme Court. The US used to have a federal prohibition on gambling save for tribal casinos and special situations like Las Vegas. The Supreme Court’s decision was to repeal the prohibition, thus allowing for individual states to make their own gambling laws. The response from several states was to quickly draft measures to allow gambling, with special attention paid to online gambling and sportsbook apps.

The results were beneficial almost right away: revenue data from multiple states shows numbers in the millions from online gambling and sports betting. This comes from states like Michigan and Arizona and is particularly amazing when compared to New Jersey. The Garden State has Atlantic City, one of the gambling centers of the US. Yet smaller states that just legalized online gambling last year are already matching and exceeding some of NJ’s revenue numbers. New York is expected to bring in huge amounts of money from the millions of people in NYC alone.

Online gambling is proving to be a very profitable industry, and unlike many businesses that take time to get going, the profits are almost instantaneous. Successes from US states have inspired other locations like Ontario, Canada. Ontario is about to expand its betting laws to a level that will include esports, awards shows, and even political betting. Now, New York is about to join legendary gambling hubs and will probably rake in record revenue.
