Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case Updates: Rhea Chakraborty Appears Before ED After Rejection of Plea

What we know so far:

1. The Mumbai Police had registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput and a probe is underway in the case. Till now, the Mumbai Police recorded statements of 56 people, including Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters, Rhea Chakraborty and some other film personalities. The Mumbai Police has recorded the statements of Bollywood directors like Aditya Chopra, Mahesh Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. 

2. In tweets from her official handle, Rhea Chakraborty had requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah on July 14 for a CBI probe.

3. While the Mumbai Police had registered the ADR, the Patna police had registered a case on a complaint from Sushant’s father KK Singh against Rhea Chakraborty, her parents Indrajit Chakraborty and Sandhya Chakraborty, brother Showik Chakraborty, and common friends Samuel Miranda and Shruti Modi. 

4. The Patna police had filed the FIR under the IPC sections related to criminal conspiracy, abetment to suicide, wrongful confinement, criminal breach of trust, theft and criminal intimidation which was forwarded to the Centre for a CBI probe.

5. Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the FIR from Patna to Mumbai. He told the apex court that the Bihar government cannot recommend a CBI probe when the police from that state do not have any jurisdiction to even investigate the case.

6. Due to the escalating acrimony between Mumbai and Bihar police over jurisdictional issues, the Nitish Kumar-led government recommended a CBI inquiry into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput after the late actor’s family lawyer, Vikas Singh, requested the CM to transfer the case from Mumbai Police to the central probe agency.

7. The Supreme Court Wednesday said the truth behind the death of “gifted and talented artist” Sushant Singh Rajput should come out, even as the Centre informed that it accepted the recommendation of the Bihar government to initiate a CBI inquiry in the matter. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, told the apex court that the Bihar government’s recommendation for CBI investigation in the case has been accepted.

8. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned actor Rhea Chakraborty in connection with a probe into the allegations of financial irregularities levelled by the late Sushant Singh Rajput’s father. The ED on July 31 had registered a money laundering case against Chakraborty and a few of her relatives based on a July 25 FIR filed in Patna by Rajput’s father KK Singh.

9. The CBI on Thursday took over investigation into the actor Sushant Singh Rajput death case and re-registered the Patna police FIR related to alleged criminal conspiracy and abetment to suicide against his rumoured girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family members.

10. The case will be probed by a special investigation team under Superintendent of Police Nupur Prasad and will be supervised by DIG Gagandeep Gambhir and Joint Director Manoj Shashidhar, both senior IPS officers from the Gujarat cadre.
