Katherine Joy: Uncovering the secrets of the moon

Think the moon is grey and boring? Think again. For University of Manchester lunar geologist, Katherine Joy, the Moon is the most exciting destination in our solar system. Lunar samples from the Apollo missions highlighted similarities to Earth and 50 subsequent years of analysis uncovered surprising findings, including water hidden beneath its surface – something necessary for a lunar base and future space exploration. It also gave us a better understanding of planet Earth, too, including hints of how life may have first arrived here.
