The 7 New Movies Coming To Netflix This Week

Usually at the beginning of each week, I list out every new movie coming to streaming services like Amazon Prime, Hulu and HBO Max. But this week, there really aren’t any new movies of note on any of those platforms.

That is, however, except for Netflix
NFLX
, which consistently pumps out more new material each week than any of its competitors. And that’s true for this week as well, as eight new movies will become available on Netflix over the next four days.

So which movies are those? Here’s every new film coming to Netflix this week and what you can expect from each project.

Hope Frozen: A Quest to Live Twice

In what sounds like the plot of a modern dramatic sci-fi film, Hope Frozen: A Quest to Live is actually a heart-rending documentary that details a very real journey for a Thai family. This award-winning film follows a scientist’s painstaking decision to cryonically freeze his dying toddler daughter.

Hope Frozen: A Quest to Live Twice will become available to stream on Netflix on September 15.

East Side Sushi

Sushi is a cherished cuisine with a rich Japanese history. But East Side Sushi flips tradition on its head when the film follows a single Mexican-American mother trying to make a name for herself in the culinary world.

East Side Sushi will become available to stream on Netflix on September 15.

The Smurfs 2

Believe it or not, The Smurfs has been the most popular movie this month on Netflix. It should be no surprise, then, that the streaming platform pursued the sequel as well. The Smurfs 2 continues to follow the famed blue creatures as they fend off the evil wizard Gargamel (played by Hank Azaria) once again.

The Smurfs 2 will become available to stream on Netflix on September 15.

The Devil All the Time

After several delays (thanks to COVID-19), The Devil All the Time will finally release on Netflix. This mystery film starring Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson is based on the novel of the same name by Donald Ray Pollock. The story centers on a group of sinister small-town characters who go up against a young man dedicated to protecting his loved ones.

The Devil All the Time will become available to stream on Netflix on September 16.

The Paramedic

Not a lot of movies have released in 2020. On top of that, not many of them are readily available to be streamed. But the Spanish thriller The Paramedic is one of the few non-Netflix Originals to actually become available for mass consumption. The movie follows a man named Ángel who, following a serious life-altering accident, becomes convinced that his wife is cheating on him.

The Paramedic will become available to stream on Netflix on September 16.

Horrid Henry’s Gross Day Out

The only children’s programming coming to Netflix this week, Horrid Henry’s Gross Day Out will make its 2020 debut on the streaming platform. The animated film continues the adventures of Harry, who plans to spend his Saturday watching his favorite TV show. However, things change when the characters on that show come to life.

Horrid Henry’s Gross Day Out will become available to stream on Netflix on September 17.

Residue

Yet another 2020 release, this independent drama from Merawi Gerima has received great reviews from the few critics that have been fortunate enough to see it. Residue follows a filmmaker who wishes to write a script about this childhood. But when he returns home for research, he doesn’t recognize the neighborhood he grew up in.

Residue will become available to stream on Netflix on September 17.
