Blackpink’s New Single Is Already The Fourth-Longest-Charting Song By A Korean Girl Group In Canadian History

When Blackpink’s new single “How You Like That” debuted on the Canadian Hot 100, the all-genre ranking of the most-consumed songs in the northern country every week, it launched in the notable position of No. 11. It was obvious to see that the cut was an immediate fan favorite, and while the title has descended on the ranking every frame since it arrived, it is still performing well, especially when compared to many other Korean-language tracks, which can sometimes start at impressively lofty positions, only to disappear a very short time later.

“How You Like That” only falls one space this time around, dipping from No. 62 to No. 63, and by finding space on the ranking once more, the single has advanced on the all-time ranking of the most successful tracks by South Korean girl groups in Canada.

Blackpink’s latest win has now been present on the Canadian Hot 100 for four weeks, and while that might not sound like a particularly long time, it is notable when taking into account only those tunes released by all-female vocal bands from the Asian nation.

With a fourth week on the Canadian Hot 100 to its credit, “How You Like That” passes Blackpink’s other 2020 smash, “Sour Candy,” which only lived on the list for three turns before it disappeared from the tally. That cut, a collaboration with pop superstar Lady Gaga, debuted on the chart just a little over a month ago, climbing to No. 18.

Only three tracks by South Korean girl groups have spent more time on the Canadian Hot 100, and they are all by Blackpink. Leading the way among the collection of beloved tunes come their solo efforts “DDU-DU DDU-DU” and “Kill This Love,” which both managed to hit 10 frames on the roster. They are currently tied as the longest-charting releases, when focusing only on Asian female acts.

Just one week ahead of “How You Like That” is Dua Lipa and Blackpink’s “Kiss and Make Up,” which earned five stays on the Canadian Hot 100 during its heyday.

If “How You Like That” can continue its winning streak, which seems very likely at this point, it will tie “Kiss and Make Up” as the third-longest-charting single by a South Korean girl group in Canadian history. At this point, looking at where the track sits now and how slowly it is falling, the cut may be on track to resetting the ranking once more, as it could continue to chart for weeks to come.
