Boxing Odds And Predictions: Charlo Vs. Derevyanchenko Tops The 3 Most Interesting Bets On Saturday

The Charlo brothers take center stage in their Showtime boxing PPV extravaganza on Saturday, as Jermall Charlo defends his middleweight belt vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko and twin brother Jermell Charlo tries to unify the junior middleweight titles vs. Jeison Rosario. The Charlo vs. Derevyanchenko and Charlo vs. Rosario odds have mostly remained steady for the past several weeks, and there are a plethora of other bets that can be made on what will be a busy Saturday in boxing.

Yet, the Charlo brothers are sure to find plenty of interest for their matchups.

“This is like the Super Bowl for us,” Jermall Charlo said. “At the end of the day, we’re always ready to fight. This is what we do and this is what we prepare ourselves for. We’re true warriors.”

Here’s all you need to know about the week in boxing odds.

Boxing odds and predictions: The 3 most interesting wagers this week

-Jermall Charlo (-190) vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko (+145): While Derevyanchenko (13-2, 10 KOs) has suffered two close losses to Daniel Jacobs and Gennaidy Golovkin, he gets a third chance at a middleweight title held by Charlo (30-0, 22 KOs) Saturday night on Showtime PPV. It’s basically a pick ‘em fight in my eyes, and though I lean toward a Charlo decision victory (which would pay you $105 on a $100 wager) instead of a KO win (which would pay $450), I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Derevyanchenko grab the win. If you like the upset play, I’d go with a Derevyanchenko victory by decision at +260 instead of a stoppage win at +550.

-Jermell Charlo (-550) vs. Jeison Rosario (+375): If I was going to pick this fight straight up, I’d probably go with Charlo (33-1, 17 KOs). But because I think there’s so much value in a Rosario upset at +375, I think I’d bet on him to pull the upset and see if I could make $375 on my $100 wager. Rosario’s (20-1-1, 14 KOs) power is legit, and even though Charlo’s chin has never been in question, Rosario’s knockout victory against Julian “J Rock” Williams earlier this year makes me think he could have enough pop against Charlo to make a difference. If you really wanted to make a statement, you could get a Rosario win by stoppage for +650.

-Mairis Briedis vs. Yuniel Dorticos (+333 to win by KO/TKO): Though Briedis is a 2/1 favorite straight up and Dorticos is +150, I love the idea of picking Dorticos by stoppage here. The two are fighting in the cruiserweight finals of the World Super Series of Boxing, which can be seen Saturday in the U.S. on DAZN at 3 p.m. ET, and Dorticos’ (24-1, 22 KOs) only loss came in the finals of the first season to Murat Gassiev in 2018. But this knockout of Dmitry Kudryashov in 2017 should make you a believer in his power.

Briedis (26-1, 19 KOs) is a fine fighter, and his only loss came to former undisputed 200-pound champion Oleksandr Usyk by majority decision. I think Briedis would beat Dorticos in a 12-round fight. But I’d put money on Dorticos stopping him before that.

If you want to parlay these three bouts (Jermall Charlo’s money line, Rosario’s money line and the Dorticos KO), you’d get it at a hefty +3041. If you want to substitute Jermell Charlo’s money line for the Rosario upset to make it less risky, that number would drop to +680.

What happened with last week’s boxing odds?

-Like I wrote last week, Erickson Lubin didn’t have enough firepower to knock out Terrell Gausha, but he was certainly good enough to beat him by relatively wide unanimous decision. If you took Lubin to win by decision at about -163 and parlayed that with a Jaron Ennis victory and a Jose Pedraza victory—like I suggested—you earned about $160 on a $100 wager. Hey, it’s not the hugest of profits, but any kind of gambling victory is a good one.

-Speaking of Ennis, I saw one place where you could get him at -400 to win by KO. That’s exactly what he did vs. Juan Carlos Abreu, who had never been stopped before.

Gambling tweet of the week

This doesn’t have much to do with boxing, but it’s good advice nonetheless.
