NYPD Will Ramp Up Police Presence Ahead Of Presidential Election

The NYPD doesn’t see any potential threats to the elections, and none are expected, Chief of Department Terrence Monahan said Tuesday during a press conference.

“It is no secret that this election is more contentious than in years past,” he continued, and the department plans on being able to quickly respond should any trouble arise.

The extra officers will be in place around the city beginning October 26, Monahan said.

Officers will be stationed at the 1,201 polling locations across New York City’s five boroughs, as well as the 88 early voting sites, which open on October 24.

There will also be special teams of officers stationed throughout the city who can quickly respond to violent situations, should they occur, Monahan said.

He added all of the officers were given additional training in crowd control tactics.
