Floyd Mayweather Will Fight YouTuber Logan Paul In Exhibition Match

Topline

Floyd Mayweather, one of boxing’s all-time greats, announced Sunday evening he will step into the ring once again early next year to box YouTuber Logan Paul in an exhibition bout.

Key Facts

The two are facing off after trading barbs on social media for months.

Mayweather retired from boxing in 2017 after a nearly 20-year career in which he won 15 titles across five weight classes, ending with a 50-0 record after soundly beating MMA star Conor McGregor.

Mayweather referenced the loudmouthed McGregor last month on Twitter, promising “@loganpaul can get the same treatment.”

Two years after the McGregor fight he took on kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition that earned Mayweather $9 million after knocking out his opponent in two minutes.

Paul has little experience in the ring: in 2018, took part in his first boxing match against fellow YouTube personality KSI which ended in a majority draw, though he lost to KSI in a rematch the following year in a split decision.

Fanmio, a company that offers meet and greet packages with celebrities for fans will stream the fight as a pay-per-view, with early prices starting at almost $25, according to the event website.

Key Background

Forbes estimates Mayweather is the best-paid athlete of the decade, having raked in $915 million in the past 10 years. The 24-year-old Paul has 22.6 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, where he posts videos about his life in Los Angeles. In 2018 he faced widespread criticism for showing the body of a Japanese suicide victim in a video.
