Vince McMahon Docuseries of ‘Harrowing Allegations’ Gets Release Date

The series, from Tiger King producer Chris Smith, will chronicle McMahon’s rise as WWE founder and fall over disturbing sexual abuse allegations

A new documentary series on the controversial former WWE head Vince McMahon is coming to Netflix in September, the streaming service announced Thursday.

Mr. McMahon, set to release on Sept. 25, focuses on McMahon’s rise and fall as the founder of the WWE, and features interviews with him from before his resignation along with several members of his family, famed professional wrestlers, and the reporters who broke the story of the sexual abuse allegations leveled against him. Chris Smith, the executive producer behind Tiger King, produced the series alongside Bill Simmons.

The series comes two years after McMahon first retired from the WWE in 2022 amid an internal investigation into allegations of a hush-money payment and allegations of sexual assault. He came back in 2023 to help push the WWE’s sale to Endeavor, which also owns the talent agency WME as well as the UFC.

He resigned from the WWE earlier this year after a former employee sued him, accusing him of sex trafficking and sexual assault. He’s denied the allegations. Janel Grant, the former employee who sued him, paused her lawsuit at the end of May as the Department of Justice conducts its own investigation.

“The goal behind ‘Mr. McMahon’ was to pull back the curtain and reveal the true Vince McMahon, obscured beneath the persona he presented to the world,” Smith said in a statement, per Variety. “Over the four years of production, the story evolved in truly shocking ways, culminating in some extremely harrowing allegations. The final product is a revealing documentary that we believe offers a rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind.”
