10 Great Movies That Will Disappear From Amazon Prime At The End Of January

Monday will be a great day for Amazon Prime
AMZN
subscribers, as the streaming service will add dozens of new movies to its filmic lineup at that time. However, that also means several movies will exit the platform.

Luckily, you still have some time to catch those films. Here are ten great movies to watch before they disappear from Amazon Prime on Monday.

Grease (1978)

Just as bright, bubbly and infectious as ever, Grease is an absolute joy to watch 43 years after its original release. To this day I find myself humming tunes from this vibrant musical.

Oh, a side note: Grease 2 will also disappear from Amazon Prime on Monday. And that film is much better than you remember it being!

28 Days Later (2003)

Back in the early 2000s when I was first getting into movies, 28 Days Later was a godsend. Danny Boyle heightened the zombie formula to new insane levels (even though this isn’t necessarily a “zombie movie”) with this sci-fi horror film about an out-of-control virus.

Almost Famous (2000)

Sure, the Cameron Crowe formula turns a lot of people off. But as far as I’m concerned: when Crowe nails his brand of storytelling, he really nails it. And that was the case with Almost Famous, which features an all-star cast of actors and a classic rock soundtrack for the ages.

The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

It’s always interesting when a new director takes over a movie series. In the case of the Bourne films, Paul Greengrass brought his signature aesthetic to the second movie in the series, The Bourne Supremacy, before mastering his beautifully chaotic style in The Bourne Ultimatum.

West Side Story (1961)

What is there to say that hasn’t been said about West Side Story? This classic film—which will soon see a remake from the great Steven Spielberg—is one of the most colorful, well-shot musicals to ever exist. I don’t even flinch at the two-and-a-half-hour runtime—in fact, I wish it was even longer.

Primal Fear (1996)

Movies become famous for a variety of reasons. But the reason Primal Fear has remained relevant 25 years later is one we can’t even talk about until you’ve seen the film. Rarely does a movie rip the rug from beneath your feet in such a dramatic and fascinating manner.

Erin Brokovich (2000)

One of the most intriguing aspects of a director is their versatility—and there is perhaps no director in Hollywood more versatile than Steven Soderbergh. From Ocean’s Eleven to Contagion to Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Soderbergh has always offered a unique and interesting perspective on the events of his films. He also extracts some incredible performances from his actors—which includes Julia Roberts, who won an Oscar for Erin Brockovich.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)

Ah. Is there a better director-actor combo in Hollywood than Tim Burton and Johnny Depp? And then when you throw Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman and Sacha Baron Cohen into the mix…well, you get one heck of a weird (and awesome) musical in the form of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

The Sapphires (2013)

Often, musical biopics can come across as formulaic and bland—but that’s not the case with The Sapphires. Centering on four Australian Aboriginal girls who are set on making it in the music industry, this play-turned-film tells the tale of The Sapphires’s rise to prominence.

Thank You For Smoking (2006)

Thank You For Smoking reminds me of a very specific moment in Hollywood where Jason Reitman’s offbeat aesthetic was all the rage. His films—which also included projects like Juno, Young Adult and Up in the Air—were always fun and provided an opportunity for great dramatic actors to exercise their comedic flairs.
