2020 NBA Free Agency Preview: Ranking The Top Power Forwards Available

After previously ranking the top point guards, shooting guards and small forwards set to hit the open market this offseason, today we highlight the best power forwards up for grabs:

1. Anthony Davis – Player Option – Los Angeles Lakers:

The Lakers went all-in on AD last summer (despite the fact he had the ability to opt-out of his contract after just one season), trading away Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, De’Andre Hunter, cash, and a pair of future first-round picks. The gamble paid massive dividends in 2020, as Davis averaged 26.1 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.4 blocks and helped carry the Lakers to a title. Multiple outlets report that Davis plans to opt-out and become a free agent this week, but he is fully expected to re-sign with Los Angeles for max money.

2. Danilo Gallinari – Unrestricted – OKC Thunder:

The Thunder reportedly agreed to acquire Al Horford in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday. Horford still has three seasons remaining on the four-year, $109 million pact he signed with the Sixers as a free agent last summer. Thus, it seems likely the Thunder will let Gallo walk away this offseason. The New York Times reported earlier this week that there is a “growing belief among rival teams” the Atlanta Hawks (who have more cap space than any team in the NBA) will “be in pole position” for Gallinari.

3. Davis Bertans – Unrestricted – Wizards:

After a few uneven seasons in San Antonio, Bertans broke out in a big way in 2019-20 in D.C., averaging career-highs in points (15.4) and rebounds (4.5) to go along with 3.7 made 3-pointers per game (while converting a scorching 42.4% of those triple tries). Last week, Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard said re-signing Bertans would be a “top priority” this offseason. If the Wiz are unable or unwilling to meet Bertans’ contract demands, Washington could receive some intriguing sign-and-trade opportunities.

4. Jerami Grant – Player Option – Denver Nuggets:

Yahoo’s Chris Hayes reported Monday that Grant will decline his 2020-21 player option, which is worth $9.3 million. This was expected after Grant turned in another terrific all-around season in 2019-20, after a breakout campaign for the OKC Thunder in 2018-19. The Heat, Suns, Pistons and Hawks are all rumored to have interest in Grant, but the Nuggets would like to retain his services as well.

5. Paul Millsap – Unrestricted – Denver Nuggets:

Millsap, who will celebrate his 36th birthday in February, is on the backend of his career. Last season, he averaged fewer than 12 points and six rebounds per game for the first time since his sophomore campaign back in 2007-08. Nonetheless, the respected veteran is still a steady contributor on both ends of the floor and a respected locker room presence. Last month, Nuggets GM Tim Connelly told reporters that he hopes Millsap will end his career in Denver. “He taught us so much about winning and how to get to this point,” Connelly said.

Best of the Rest:

Derrick Favors – Unrestricted – New Orleans Pelicans

Dario Saric – Restricted – Phoenix Suns
