2020 NFL Draft: Breaking Down Las Vegas Raiders’ Day 2 Options

The Las Vegas Raiders stood pat with both of their first-round picks Thursday night, adding wide receiver Henry Ruggs and cornerback Damon Arnette to the mix.

General manager Mike Mayock addressed two key positions of need. One came in the form of the top receiver off the board while the other was seen as somewhat of a reach.

Heading into Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft, Las Vegas is without a second-round selection stemming from the Khalil Mack trade. Though, it does have three third-round picks. Below, I break down the Raiders’ best options as the draft continues on Friday.

I will be using the FanSpeak mock draft simulator and Bleacher Report Matt Miller’s big board to discuss the options.

Third-Round, 80th Pick: J.K. Dobbins, Running Back, Ohio State

Las Vegas went need over value in selecting Damon Arnette Thursday night. Here, it goes in the completely opposite direction. Running back is not a need with Josh Jacobs leading the charge. However, the Raiders have been linked to this position in recent weeks.

The idea of adding a first-round talent in Dobbins to team up with Jacobs will be too hard to pass up on. We’d be looking at the best young running back tandem in the entire NFL.

Other options: Matt Hennessy (guard), Alton Robinson (EDGE), Neville Gallimore (defensive tackle)

Third-Round, 81st Pick: Matt Hennessy, Guard, Temple

Placing the injury-plagued Gabe Jackson on the trade block seems to suggest that the Raiders will target a guard in the mid rounds. In adding Hennessy to the mix, Las Vegas finds both value and need.

A center in college, the former Owls star translates better to guard. He fits what the Raiders are looking to build upfront. This selection makes too much sense.

Other options: Cam Akers (running back), Lynn Bowden (wide receiver), Damien Lewis (guard)

Third Round, 91st Pick: Trade

Las Vegas has only one selection in Round 5 and no picks after that. It is going to want to get back in the game in the mid-to-late rounds. Under this scenario, the Raiders move the 91st pick to the Cincinnati Bengals for a fourth and fifth-round selection.

Fourth Round, 107th Pick: Anfernee Jennings, EDGE, Alabama

It’s rather clear that Las Vegas likes itself some Alabama players, having taken one in the first round of each of the past two drafts. Jennings would represent value at a need position behind Maxx Crosby and Clelin Ferrell. The Raiders previously kicked the tires on adding a Pro Bowler in a trade. Instead, they go young with a dude who tallied 25.5 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks in his final two seasons with the Crimson Tide.

Other options: Adam Trautman (tight end), Harrison Bryant (tight end), Troy Dye (linebacker)

Fourth Round, 121st Pick: Thaddeus Moss, Tight End, LSU

While this position might not seem like much of a need given that Las Vegas boasts Pro Bowler Darren Waller and recently signed Jason Witten, that’s just on the surface. Witten seems to be a shell of his former self. Adding a block-first tight end in that of Randy Moss’ son makes a ton of sense. Moss could also turn into a pretty darn solid No. 2 receiving option from the tight end position.

Other options: Tyler Johnson (wide receiver), Julian Blackmon (safety), James Lynch (defensive tackle)
